Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data.
Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the conservative coalition over the past year, a trend that has accelerated with alarming implications for Bush's governing strategy.
The Gallup polling organization recorded a 13-percentage-point drop in Republican support for Bush in the past couple weeks. These usually reliable voters are telling pollsters and lawmakers they are fed up with what they see as out-of-control spending by Washington and an abandonment of core conservative principles more generally.
There are also significant pockets of conservatives turning on Bush and Congress over the their failure to tighten immigration laws, restrict gay marriage and to put an end to the Iraq war and the rash of political scandals, according to lawmakers and pollsters.
Bush won two presidential elections by pursuing a political and governing model that was predicated on winning and sustaining the loyal backing of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives. The strategy was based on the belief that conservatives, who are often more politically active than the general public, could be inspired to vote in larger numbers and would serve as a reliable foundation for his presidency. The theory, as explained by Bush strategists, is that the president would enjoy a floor below which his support would never fall.
It is now apparent that this floor has weakened dramatically and collapsed in places.

YOU posted to me. Don't post to me if you don't want a reply. Just blather on to someone else who might find your opinions interesting or of merit.
The founder of this forum.
And I happened to have agreed then...and still do.
Funny how folks cherry pick quotes and opinions change.
lol....boy do they ever.
It's really quite simple, Philman. You see, believing a socialist child molester millionaire, who has spent the better part of his life denigrating conservatives, smearing Christians and generally doing the scut work of the worst of the worst of the Democrat party, enables people who were raining hosannas upon Minutemen just this afternoon a plausibly deniable way to do an about face because they just cannot admit that they were wrong about our president referring to the aforementioned Minutemen as "vigilantes" on March 24, 2005. And this is a point of concern because of by-now widely publicized charges that our own Border Patrol has been collaborating with Mexican authorities, providing intelligence as to their location and movements, thereby undermining their effectiveness. The administration cannot be seen, now, as having been hostile at all, because that lends credence to the charge.
It's as simple as that. Got it?
Back to the original point of disagreement - There was plenty of sound "logic" behind the push to impeach and remove Clinton from office.
Okay, so the article about Connie is the truth. And it's a pretty favorable report, would be read by most conservatives as a positive assessment. So why, then, the hate-Connie posts? See, this is what I'm asking. I can't figure it out. You are using the positive assessment of Connie as a device to get people to accept the negative assessment of Simcox. But I am using the positive assessment of Connie, which you are obviously endorsing, as a device to question your bashing of her elsewhere.
Which is why I'm saying, to quote you, you can't have it both ways.
Bush and many of the congressional Republicans are going to hand the congress to the Democrats. Once in control, they will harrass Bush incessantly the remaining two years of office with investigations, inquiries, subpoenas, etc., which will completely undermine support for the party. This, in turn, will hand '08 to Hillary.
Nobody, but nobody, can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory the way Republicans can. Think back to just a year or a little more ago. We were riding high on the '04 election results. We did well. Now we couldn't win the Office of Chief Dogcatcher of Podunkville.
I am beyond disgusted.
Connie is the spokesperson for the MM now; I pointed out that there was an article over there about her and simply asked was that one not true either.
I'm not sure I posted "hate-Connie" posts, as you described them, on this thread; I merely pointed out that she's not welcome around here.
Great! You keep an extra police officer stashed in the closet, just in case?
He does ask for an ID when he pulls one over, does he not? No ID, No insurance? What then? Sounds like the "force" is run by ACLU lawyers rather than people interested in crime control.
Their choice to opus or commit suicide or whatever label you intend to use. I chose to stick around. They couldn't handle it obviously.

Hogwash!
I don't have to BELIEVE either one of them.
Dees didn't write that article; and Simcox didn't SUE anybody for what they wrote.
"I merely pointed out that she's not welcome around here."
Why is that? I have seen replies that would lead me to believe that the environment on FR was pretty negative, regarding the Minutemen, back in the early part of 2005. Or, was it something else?
Don't worry....they got a little let down when JR came out on the Dump Harriet side. (my side...which was nice)
Now the "Club" is happy again with the immigration horse to ride.
But that will change. This won't dominate forever here though the "Club" loves it. It unifies them and makes them feel wanted and gives them reason to spit.
Nite
I honestly do not know what happened about that. I vaguely remember some controversy about things that were posted about FR on another site, but I couldn't even tell you the name of the site right now .....except I do think it was in or near Raleigh (?) or Burlington (?), but I could be wrong about that.
Connie was not involved in that.
Payback scheme? No. Takeback strategy. Amazing how you completely ignore what I did say in attempt to reconstruct it into something I didn't say. Then again, were my hand as pathetic as yours and my ethics substantially lower, I might resort to deciet in favor of loss.. But I'm not you.
Neither party can be trusted in office for equally damaging reasons. Plain, simple and to the point. It's beyond time to finish what was started with Perot. It's time to start a new regime and take the country back from the monied interests. I know that scares the likes of you. I really don't care. And if you could answer my argument, you would do better than the slop you just offered up.
But then you can't do much better than that. Thus the call for a third party. The GOP is losing it's base in droves. It's own numbers show that. You couldn't win last election if it were held today precisely because the Greedy old you know whats have betrayed America once again. Give them control and they just can't constrain themselves from being asses. If they could, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Your problem, not mine. If you want to linger in your condescention and self delusion, be my guest.
I've had it and a huge chunk of the base has as well.. and growing. What's happening now is what was happening in the early 90s. And for all the same reasons.
