Sea Turtle's Death Halts Fla. Restoration

DESTIN, Fla. - A beach restoration project in the Florida Panhandle has been shut down until next fall after an endangered sea turtle was killed, authorities said.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stopped the work after the Kemp's ridley sea turtle was killed during dredging Sunday. It was the third endangered sea turtle killed since the project began...

I heard is was a turtle suicide; it must have been upset by the beach restoration efforts. Ya, sure, you betcha.

Not here in San Francisco; we have the same thing, some activist that has been fighting the developer that is at the edge of his property found an endangered weed that has not appeared there in years, just in time to stop the multimillion dollar project.

Officials were hoping the Walton County project would be completed by June 1, which is the official start of hurricane season.

Hmmm, coincidently it's also the beginning of tourist season.

I was recently snorkeling in the Keys and saw several sea turtles. Go to Hawaii and they are all over the place. It is hardly as if the sea turtle is about to disappear.

I remember hearing about how the expansion project at SFO was put to a halt for three days because a stupid garter snake got squished by a tractor.
