U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.
"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.
"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."
Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.
"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.
"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

This story, if true and accurate, is sickening. As for George Bush - impeach him. Then have him pay restitution to every citizen who has been injured by or who's property has been damaged by these criminals.

Travis is a better person and a more loyal American, than you could ever try to be.
Do you receive that much satisfaction berating others that you can't even restrict your comments to those who've not been muzzled by banning...whose only "crime" was stating what he thought, something you do in spades?

I will never understand why so many great posters have been banned (some for stating the truth about Sinkspur) and yet Sinkspur is still here.

Somewhat unaware but not totally unaware. If he's indeed totally unaware he should have never been elected
He knew there was a problem when he was Governor of Texas (and we all should have known how he'd handle illegal immigration on a national scale based on how much he buddied up to Mexico as Governor, but hindsight's great and all that).
He promised Fox a few years ago that he would push for a Guest Worker program.
Unaware or not, this is just plain WRONG. As president, he should be making sure nothing of this sort would EVER happen regardless of what anyone thought. There is something seriously wrong here.
I agree, and it scares the hell out of me to think that rather than try and secure our borders, the feds are just waiting around for another terrorist attack, and then rather than secure our borders, they'll just turn the place into a police state. Once every little podunk local government started setting up a "Homeland Security Office" and getting tons of funding, I knew the government would keep on ignoring the border.

Unfreakin' believable. Patriotic Americans (Minutemen) are putting their lives at risk and BUSH is ratting their position out to the Mexican Government? Whats up with that? IMPEACH NOW!! BUSH's allegiance has to be to the American citizens before the illegal aliens. That cannot be in dispute and if this turns out to be true I am going to request my Reps and Senators bring up articles of IMPEACHMENT - I am serious on this, and I AM FURIOURS.

Travis McGee is a great and patriotic American and undeserving of your sneer. Were you but half the man he is. Do you say that because I don't use FR as a vehicle to sell a book?

There's definitely something rotten in the state of Denmark when patriotic Americans like the Minutemen are made into the bad guys, that's for certain.
I passed furious a few hours ago.

>>George Bush is an enemy of our sovereignty.<<
I want to see if he will get up on his stump and launch an "investigation" like he did with gas prices.
I think we all know the answer already.
If I used the words I'm thinking right now, I would need my mouth washed out with soap.
