U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)
Daily Bulletin ^ | 5/9/2006 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 05/09/2006 6:21:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.

"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.

"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."

Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.

"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.

"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

That's nothing new really. The Seattle area alone has over 24,000 registered sex offenders...and they are legal residents.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a racist organization.

Certainly one that has outlived it's reason for being.
They may have done some good decades ago.
Now they seem to just be a "will whine loudly for charity funds" organization.

I don't personally know OJ either but I have no problem calling him a double murder. If you can excuse this kind of crap then you have a hell of a lot of sand accusing Bush supporters of being blind supporters. This guy is the lowest of the low.

I did not know about that one specifically - do you think U.S. citizens don't kill and/or rape illegal aliens too? This would be the kind of "other" crimes I'm talking about. There was an illegal alien killed over the weekend on the border - did you know that?

Funny this issue was important to me many years ago, There were no MM then. The MM are not my impetus to this problem, giving away this country is, doesn't that reach you?

I first of all wonder how credible the Mexican govt site is. If their claims of influence-peddling with U.S. officials and law enforcement prove true, then ... our State Department MUST take firm action to denounce in strong terms.

Some of it will be easy to find; others, of course, not. I've thought of that myself. The other thing you have to keep in mind: these "documents" on their website look like our homepages in that they're not pictures of actual written documents. It's possible, if it's all in html format, that anything could change at any time, as well (even what I'm working on translating right now). They are a corrupt government, after all. Having said that, I know not everything on there is false, either. For instance, they have mentioned taking legal action...this is factual, as it was publicized last year in March of 2005, and also it was announced that they would speak to Condi Rice when she visited Mexico in March 29, 2005 (I think was the date of her visit), and again to President Bush in Waco when Fox visited. They also mention specific dates that certain things occurred. Those, of course, should be easily verified. As to whatever discussions or agreements with our government that aren't publicized, then we need to look at the behavior or comments of OUR government as regards the MM and other citizens' groups, to see if what's written rings true.

"The Minutemen are the only ones who can tell the truth?"

well said!

Question for the 'Bush-Bashers':

Whether it's true or not... we will know for sure in the next few days... I'll be patient but with questions... Why on earth would a government want to be spying on a group of what they consider "vigilantes"?

Surely they would come out and tell us all they are spying on Americans if it were true. Especially in this heated time of discussing what the drive-by media and liberals call the NSA "illegal domestic" spying on Americans.
