Stars and Spooks
President Bushs nomination of Air Force General Michael Hayden to head the CIA has ignited a fierce debate in Washington over whether a military man can serve as Americas most Intel Chief.
The Conservative War
There's talk about whether President Bush is a true conservative at heart. His immigration solution seems off-course for the conservative base and his spending is out of control. What are conservative Republicans to do in November? Sen. Sam Brownback has the answers.
Move Over Bambino
Slugger Barry Bonds is about to break Babe Ruths all-time home run record. He came within one of that record Sunday night by hitting number 713. Does he deserve the title if and when it happens?
Good morning, all.
"Brian and the Judge", sounds like a bad sitcom. But I'm intrigued.
Welcome to the Tony Snow Ping List.
At no extra charge, all subscribers to the Tony Snow ping list also receive a daily ping to the "Brian and the Judge Show". This is Tony's old venue and old habits die hard.
Many of us still congregate there to discuss the news of the day and make our plans for the future.
Good morning.
I'm either running early or you all are stuck in traffic. (My "heavy" traffic is if the neighbor runs equipment down the road the same time the schoolbus goes through.)
FYI,
I noticed in the Ping List update from saveliberty, one of the delimiters was ":".
This might break your pinger.

I will have to be in and out because today is staff meeting day :<(
It DID break my pinger. I had to read through the list to find the offending ":".
That should make for a stimulating and exciting day. We will want to hear all about it :)
Add me to the ping list, please. :<)
Morning Bah, all. I'm off to a school. Lucianne has some great stuff today, but no time to post.

The '$5 Trillion Surplus' - The Myth that Refuses to Die
During an appearance on Meet the Press, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi repeated one of the biggest myths coming out of the Clinton presidency: that the federal debt had been erased, and that we had more than a $5 trillion surplus.
This is totally false.
Here's the transcript from Meet the Press:
http://www.theneweditor.com/index.php?/archives/3063-The-5-Trillion-Surplus-The-Myth-that-Refuses-to-Die.html
REP. PELOSI: ... We came out of the Clinton years $5.6 trillion dollars in surplus, surplus. The Bush policies turn that around. Now were $9 trillion dollars debt ceiling when we couldve been eightdebt-free as a nation by 2008.
There was never a $5.6 trillion surplus at the end of the Clinton Administration.
There was at the end of FY 2001, however, about $3.3 trillion in debt held in federal treasuries, and about $5.7 trillion worth of total debt, including that existing in trust funds and other government accounts.
Read the data here.

The claims that we had erased the federal debt and had gone on to a surplus were based on long-range projections that were totally inaccurate, and had never been realized.
Why then do the Dems continue to repeat this myth?
One commenter:
This is a usual canard used by the Democrats. If I am not mistaking, there was a projected budget surplus of about 5 trillion over a ten year period. Of course, this was based on a completely unsustainable growth projection of the technology sector before the dot-com bust. If I recall correctly, the Democrats proposed using some of this projected surplus to pay down the national debt, while the Republicans suggested giving it back to the people in the form of tax cuts. Of course, the growth didnt continue and we hit a recession. With or without the tax cuts, we would have ended up back in deficit territory.

The longsuffering of our Lord is salvation. 2 Peter 3:15
On March 20, 1980, Mount St. Helens in Washington, a supposedly dormant volcano, began to quake and rumble. The local population was evacuated to a safe distance 8 miles away. Later, the side of the mountain began to bulge. Scientists were not alarmed because past research of volcanoes indicated that they never blew sideways.
Then on May 18 the side of Mount St. Helens exploded, shooting tons of debris downhill at the speed of 150 miles per hour. A minute later, the volcano exploded upward with the equivalent power of 500 atomic bombs! Two hundred thirty square miles of forest were devastated and 57 people lost their lives. The scientists had assumed that natural events would continue as before. But they were wrong.
The book of 2 Peter tells us of a future time when a similar misplaced confidence will be destroyed by the fiery end of our world (3:4-7). But the good news is that God will build new heavens and a new earth (v.13). He is not willing that any should perish, and He is patiently waiting so that more people will find true safety in His Son Jesus (v.9). They need only accept the salvation He offers.

Gods people must point the way if others are to escape Gods judgment.
And here comes the Judge,

And the Judge don't fudge.
