If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.
No Republican president has ever governed strictly by Republican principles. Ronald Reagan in his last term RASIED taxes. Know why? Because a Democratic House forced him to.
He was forced to sign? The veto pen ran out of ink?
my question is - how long do we put up with it?
Yea it is good to sometimes back away a little and just observe the 3-D "movie" that we call life.
Grin and bear it
Please. I'm running out of blood pressure pills
Sure MR. RHINO, the border flooding of illegals nationwide, only started when President George W. Bush, first took the Oath of Office/sarcasm off....... President Reagan's tax cut was in the shadow of Carter's 2x- headed to 3x digit inflation monster. Your supposed dem congressional opposition, were fearing for their political lives, during that time in history. Regardless, I have never heard of a good man- who would rather piss his pants, than wish well upon his Country.
hmmm - that reference to Bush if something I've never heard from FRer's - that echoes over at DU
what the H*ll are you doing here? go home to DU
One thing you, and many others, don't want to acknowledge, is that the one issue, immigration, drastically affects two of the top three in your list: illegal immigration burdens the economy in a multitude of ways...the costs of schools, hospitals, roads, jails, welfare costs...it drives up the cost of housing by using up limited housing stocks, etc.
And it most certainly is a very important part of national defense and the war. If we can't secure the homeland, we're going to eventually take hits that will make 9-11 look small by comparison.
Even your hero, George W. Bush and his spokesmen have said the same...remember the talk about "mushroom clouds"?
It's hard to understand why they can't see how dangerous an open border is.
blah blah blah DU...
blah blah blah DU...
get a new act.
EV- yes, the borders and ports are still unsecure, and won't be for awhile- if ever. Yet, this thread topic pertains to voting GOP or Dem- which is also great looming matter of National Security. The immigration bill will be passed, mutated, but passed nonetheless. So, where do you stand? Punish the GOP by third party, standing down or voting Dem?
It's already too late for this country, some people are just too stupid to realize yet.
That's the problem.
I can't seem to find any.
My local Repub congressman, who as a county commissioner was very conservative and very rational, inexplicably tacked leftward as soon as he was elected to Congress in 2004.
He voted against ANWR oil exploration, and he voted against the Patriot Act, and he continues to make overtures to the left loonies.
He told the local newspaper that he is trying to reach out to other voters, or some such baloney.
What do I do? Continue to support him.
If a more conservative Democrat came along, should I vote for him or her?
The only politician from my state I still like and trust is Sen. Rick Santorum (sure there are others in other states), and I plan to volunteer what I can for him this election.
Other than that, I am totally disgusted by Pres. Bush's immigration stance, which I consider to be a bigger threat to America than terrorism.
After all, the terrorists will never defeat us, but a continued flood of illegal third worlders CAN and WILL do great harm to the American public by diluting our resolve to stand strong.
That is why I have such a hard time when deciding whether or not to vote for a Republican who will leave the borders open, or a Democrat who will ..... well, who knows what they would do.
That is the dilemma.
Hey, wait a minute, there ain't no party here...
Thank you for posting that treasure trove of info.
I see you have decided to attack me to avoid any debate on the topic. Your call my friend.
Do you think there are lots of people who voted for Bush who wouldn't vote for Tancredo? Name them.
"After all, the terrorists will never defeat us, but a continued flood of third worlders CAN and Will do great harm"
That is about the best I've ever heard it said. Why cannot or will not President Bush and his congressmen cronies figure this out?
Sort of a stretch, don't you think?
Just how will this happen?
That's a racially insensitive phrase.
