If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.
Lets talk about Reagan vs. Bush. The easiest way is to name those things that Reagan accomplished that Bush hasnt.
Reagan signed the first handgun control bill in California history; Bush has signed no anti-gun laws in his political career.
Reagan signed the first Gay-rights legislation in California; Bush has never signed any gay rights legislation.
Reagan broke his promise never to raise taxes with his revenue enhancement programs along with the largest FICA increase in history. Bush hasnt raised taxes in any way .
Reagan cut and run in Lebanon after the first taking of casualties. Bush has stayed the course and held to his promise not to back down.
Reagan appointed 3 liberals and one conservative to the Supreme Court. Bush hass appointed 2 Conservatives and numerous lower court Conservatives.
Reagan talked a good game on abortion but Bush pushed for and got the late term abortion ban passed.
Reagan left office and immediately endorsed the Brady Bill in his first public appearance as an ex-president.
The myth of Reagan is exactly that. A myth. He was a great president because he could say the right things at the right time to make the country feel better. It is beyond dispute that Reagan beats Bush hands down when it comes to communication BUT Bush beats Reagan in every conservative category anyone cares to offer.
Oh, you want to talk about "messages?" The "messages" from the White House are coming in loud and clear.
George W. Bush treated conservatives concerned about the security concerns regarding the Emirate of Dubai like they were xenophobic. George W. Bush treated people who questioned whether Harriet Miers was qualified to serve on the Supreme Court like they were sexists and elitists. George W. Bush is now treating conservatives who believe in borders like they are racists, and is treating those who don't believe -- as he apparently does -- that American workers are lazy as if they are stupid.
Who's treating whom like an enemy?
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
He talked about using his political capital in his second term, and he squandered it all on Miers. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have told him yet, and he's turning his back on his base thinking there's something left in the piggy bank. He's still trotting out that "Workers doing jobs Americans won't do" horse manure, but seems to think saying the Star-Spangled Banner should be sung in English covers it over.
It's tiring to have to whack him upside the head with a two-by-four to get his attention.
I hope so. Because if they would really rather let the rats have the country over immigration then that's scary. I'm sure they wouldn't like the rats solution to illegals any better than they like President Bush's.
Thanks. It's easy...just follow the scent...or should I say 'stench'!
Truth hurts.
Is your definition of "trolls" one who does not agree 100% with Bush? Are Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Mike Gallagher and Sean Hannity trolls?
You know inquest, I'm embarrassed at the number of people on this thread who are too not intelligent enough to conduct an open discussion with out getting an "in-your-face" attitude if you don't agree with them.
I apologize for them. Don't ever cease to stand for what you believe. Conservatives who voted for Perot in '92 gave us 8 years of Bill. I guess angry Conservatives will now give us 8 years of Hillary.
It seems MANY here are willing to throw EVERYTHING away on an issue that is a LOSER for us, no matter which way we go.....
Until we start ENFORCING the laws we already have, new laws are just wizzing in the wind.......
Do we want action on immigration? Yes.....
Am I willing to throw out everything we've gained over a single issue? No.. I have a FAMILY who's future I care about.....
Dose is still a word, honey. And I'm sure you've NEVER made a typo...
On that, you and I fully agree.
Why are people like these men so rare? Because we no longer demand that our elected people represent us, and blindly vote for anyone who was chosen by our political party.
I for one, am tired of blindly following and want my voice heard.
I'm tired of trying to argue these points with those that will support President Bush regardless of his socialist leanings. From now on, when all of you Bush-Bots blindly argue that everyone here should shut up and turn a blind eye just because George W. has an "R" next to his name, I will just post "POPP" and hopefully y'all will know what I mean, and see how many times it needs to be posted.
Doubt I will change any "bot" minds, but it'll make me feel better. I get a certain satisfaction out of being right. Even if you will all argue with me and push the hand-basket full throttle to oblivion for party purposes.
ROFLMAO!
Nah, they're not successful here.
Vociferous, yes. Not to worry, but DO keep up the good fight!
I'd be willing to agree to that and support that.
Just as long as the fence people understood, clearly, that there would be an expansion of the guest worker program on the table next year, as well as some path to citizenship for some or most of those already here.
Yep. That one is here to defeat Rick Santorum.
My sanity is well intact, as is my love of country, and conservatism.
I'm an across the board conservative who values the sanctity of life, and honors our troops.
You do neither.
You're a pseudo who is trying to drive a wedge between legitimate conservatives, and should be treated as such.
GOOD POINT!!
