I'm not in favor of an asterisk next to Barry's name in the record book. Instead...
Barry Bonds [-[######>---
Bonds deserves more than just the asteris. If its true that he pumped him self up with roids (which I believe to be true), then he deserves to be stricken from the history books. Period.
Bonds is no where near the man Ruth was. Never will be either.
We know who Babe Ruth is over here. Barry Bonds only received mention from the BBC because of his steroid use.

I was listening to the radio on a rather lengthy drive this afternoon and the news came on between Rush segments. The news reader said that in yesterdays game Bonds hit a home run and it was caught by a US serviceman - The serviceman is going to keep the ball but Bonds said he would NOT sign it - what a creep !!!!!!!!
To compare Barry Bonds with Babe Ruth - wait, I can't believe I would even put them in the same sentence. Bonds couldn't carry Babe's golf clubs.
The left field banners in Philadelphia yesterday said it well.
Who knows, Ruth possibily would have also taken whatever if whatever was available at the time.

Hope it was worth it for ya. Professional baseball is dead.
How many championships does Bonds have again? If he can just keep playing until he catched up with Ruth in that category.
Don't know if it is true but may well be as they only played 154 games plus Ruth started as a pitcher. He was a good one too.
Don't forget - the baseballs are a lot more "juiced" today too!
Ruth changed the game and is legend... Bonds brought it disgrace... and his numbers will forever be associated with it. Ruth was bigger than life... but life was too big for Bonds.
Stengel said he would hit around 270. The announcer mentioned that wasn't very good. Stengel said, "you have to realize that Cobb is in his 70's .
hmmm...
Let's see here...
Ruth was equal to him as a hitter....
Bonds was the better base stealer, although Ruth wasn't a bad baserunner himself....
Ruth was the better fielder (he would have thrown out a cripple like Sid Bream in 1992)...
Ruth would have been a Hall of Fame pitcher had he not been such a great hitter.
Ruth is the better of the two players. It isn't close.
Now Ruth isn't the best player ever either. He's #2.
Willie Mays was the best ever.
Bonds isn't even in the top 10.
TS
(Ruth actually pitched a perfect game as a reliever. The first pitcher stuck the batter before leaving the game. Ruth then stepped in, picked the runner off at first and didn't allow another batter to make it to first base for the rest of the game. And now you know the Rest of the Story.)
Priceless... and true!
Trajan88 (Plano, TX Yankee #23)
One thing for sure; only one pitcher can pitch at a time, and only one batter can bat at the same time.
Comparing one era in a sport to another is good fun, but the real measure of a player's greatness is who remembers him after the game changes and the current heroes change.
How many kids today can identify which sport George Mikan played, let alone which team he played for?
How about Sam Huff? (I would have said Ray Nitzche, but I can't spell his name.)
Babe Ruth will be a legend for a long time, and has been a legend for a long time already. And that's because he was the dominant player of his time. There is no house that Jordan built. Comparing a mortal like Barry Bonds to Babe Ruth might keep people busy for a while, but it's not fair to Barry Bonds.
