Barry's place in history may be secure for any number of reasons; but not for being better than the Babe. I would have to see a few more pitching wins in Bond's stats to rank him above Mr. Ruth, the steals not withstanding.

Babe Ruth is a legend. Barry Bonds is infamous.

Bonds said: "I don't know yet, but the numbers speak for themselves."

No, they don't. Ruth didn't juice.

I suppose if I were a cheat and race hustler like Bonds, I might like my numbers better too. Numbers Racket.

"A boastful Barry Bonds said if he passes Babe Ruth that his place in history would be secure."

Nope, if he does pass the Babe, Bonds will always be noted as

Barry Bonds ***

*** under cloud of steroid usage

Early in the Babe's career, he was an excellent pitcher as well as a hitter. Can Bonds claim overall athleticism equal to or greater than his peers as did the Babe? Can Bonds clearly make the claim that his prowess on the ball field is strictly due to his work ethic and ability without any outside help as did the Babe?

Yes Bonds' name belongs along side some of the baseball greats:

"Shoeless" Joe Jackson -Throwing the 1919 World Series
Pete Rose - Betting on Baseball games in which he was involved
Danny Almonte - Overaged player leading his team to a LLWS
Bud Selig - Worst commissioner in the history of MLB
Steve Howe - Suspended for drugs, SEVEN times

"I don't know yet, but the numbers speak for themselves."

Is Barry talking about the number of World Series victories? Yes, indeed, the numbers speak for themselves.

lessee....Barry Bonds pumped hisself up with Steroids and HGH

and George Herman 'Babe' Ruth pumped hisself up with 10 to 15 hotdogs a game.

There must be a Hotdog-Steroid connection there somewhere.

And Hank Aron will always be higher on the list than Bonds in my book. Hammerin Hank was a clean player that did it by the books.

Denis Leary said that there were two reasons Bonds could never be the player that Ruth was. For the first nine years of his baseball career, Ruth was a pitcher, and a damn good one to boot.

The other reason was drugs. The Babe never did steriods. He was drunk all the time.
