Rove Is Using Threat of Loss to Stir G.O.P. By JIM RUTENBERG
WASHINGTON, May 5 To anyone who doubts the stakes for the White House in this year's midterm Congressional elections, consider that Representative John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, the Democrat who would become chairman of the Judiciary Committee if his party recaptured the House, has called for an inquiry into the possible impeachment of President Bush over the war in Iraq.
Or listen to Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, who would run the Senate Judiciary Committee if the Democrats took the Senate. Mr. Leahy vowed in a recent interview to subpoena top administration officials, if he got the chance, to answer more questions about their secret eavesdropping program and what he considers faulty prewar intelligence.
The prospect of the administration spending its last two years being grilled by angry Democrats under the heat of partisan spotlights has added urgency to the efforts by Karl Rove and Mr. Bush's political team to hang on to the Republican majorities in Congress.
Newly shorn of the daily policymaking duties he took on after the 2004 campaign and now refocused on his role as Mr. Bush's chief strategist, Mr. Rove is facing an increasingly difficult climate for Republicans, and an increasingly assertive Democratic Party.

Is this supposed to be a news story or science fiction.
"Vote for us, the other guys are worse!" doesn't seem to me to be a campaign motto to stir the souls and summon the blood of voters in the base.
Rove should teach el Presidente to habla ingles and seal the borders. Then we'll talk about showing up this fall to vote.
Leahy and Durbin make me puke.
All these Rats claiming victory, reminds me of the Kerry exit polls.
Before the polls closed, The RATS on Kerry's campaign were already telling each other what job they were going to have in the Kerry administration.
I wonder if Mr. Leahy still has a sufficient security clearance to hear any evidence about that program.
Only in the sick minds of the New York Slimes, is this considered to be news.
GOOD!! Somebody needs to light a fire under these people!!
Then do something in support of what are supposed to be Republican principles, instead of constantly trampling on and offending your base. Otherwise, you'll get the Democrat majority you fear.
Well, if that doesn't work, they could always try reducing the size and scope of government.
It's as simple as this: Close the borders, I'll show up to vote. Don't close the borders and/or give amnesty, then the Democrats might as well win and impeach or whatever those asses want to do. Why? Because if the Republicans aren't going to listen to their majority, then who cares what happens anymore? Pervert the meaning of democracy (majority rules) and there's no reason to care at all. Sorry, it's how I see it.
They certainly do. Unfortunately, Republicans hav an almost infinite capacity for learning the wrong lesson.
This is not a "threat" that is exactly what will happen and worse, if the Dems take over Congress. They say so themselves -- from a thread you posted:
Confident Democrats Lay Out Agenda
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1628057/posts
Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House's first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, "You never know where it leads to."
Don't bother to vote. Who needs you? The dems are going to welcome your southern bros with open arms.
So we vote against something rather than for someone?
So what else is new? I've been doing that since 1988.
The problem for the democrats
is they only have ONE playbook !
We cannot, and the NATION CANNOT,
allow them to get control of our government
at any time into the foreseeable future.
Perhaps someday when they have returned to
being Americans first they will realize the
harm they have done, one can only hope and pray
they do. Till then we must crush them, crush them
absolutely, we must destroy any hopes they have.
We cannot do that by whining and sniveling about
the small differences we have with this administration!
The lives of countless unborn future AMERICANS
depends on US!
Since I live in Illinois and there's a snowballs' chance of getting a Republican anywhere near the White House or Senate, do you suppose the Freeper Dieties would forgive me, just this once, if I voted 3rd party?
