5/6/06 A Message From OFF PAC

Dear Fellow Gun Rights Supporter,

As you know, we have very high standards for people who are asking to be hired for public office. OFF PAC rarely endorses candidates but always holds them accountable.

We are getting close to the final days to vote in the primary election. If you are a registered Republican, we strongly urge you cast your vote for Senator Jason Atkinson for Governor.

Of the Republican candidates, only Atkinson has a solid record on gun rights. Of the three major Republican candidates, only Atkinson went on the record and returned the OFF PAC candidate survey. (Oddly, Ron Saxton completed a six page NRA survey, but refused to answer a six question OFF survey.)

Atkinson has made no secret of his desire to reach out to gun owners. He has been a consistent voice for gun rights in the legislature. In contrast, Mannix has a well known anti-gun record in spite of the high marks given to him in the past by the National Rifle Association, and Saxton has no record on gun rights at all.

Since both Mannix and Saxton have a record of trying to work both sides of the fence, (Mannix was a liberal Democratic legislator and favors government solutions to every problem, and Saxton has close ties to the liberal establishment in Portland,) we think that Atkinson's consistency on many issues makes him the only reasonable choice in this race.

Regardless of which party you are in, we hope you will consider financially supporting Senator Atkinson, and if you are a registered Republican, voting for him in the primary.

Gun owners can make the difference in this race. In the last race for governor, Mannix lost by a narrow margin after gun owners learned of his anti-gun record, in spite of his lying to voters about that record. Your vote can make all the difference in this race as well.

Please support Senator Atkinson financially and with your vote.

Great news for Jason. I already voted for him, but this makes that vote even better. Its sad to see that when you have 3 legit republican canidates for governor only 1 supports gun rights.

I would love for him to be the governor. Looks like we are going to be stuck with Ron Saxton as our candidate. I would have been happy with Mannix, instead I'm supposed to get excited about Saxton.

Its not over dont get down, Atkinson is in striking distance. Over the weekend he picked up the endorsement of the Hillsboro paper, and now the O.F.F which has thousands of subscribers.

The thing to remember about the primaires 80% of republicans who vote in the primary consider themself very conservative. And Atkinson is the most conservative. Mark my words Saxton will be in third. The question is will it be Mannix or Atkinson.

Ron Saxton would be a good candidate for Congress against David Wu. The First Congressional District is prime RINO Country. But while it's sometimes necessary to support RINO's for legislative races, it's not a good idea to elect one Governor.

I'm sure Jason Atkinson is a fine person and capable legislator. But Kevin Mannix nearly won last time and brings statewide name I.D. to the race. He would seem to be the logical choice.

I respectfully disagree.

As I noted earlier we voted for Atkinson but Saxton has the $$$ and Kevin Mannix has too much baggage.

We voted for Atkinson but my personal belief is that Saxton will win the primary.

We shall see.

Let me add that the primary reason for our vote for Atkinson was that he is the only candidate that is pro-life.

Again, we shall see.

Yeah Kevin almost won what makes you think he will win this time against an incumbent? Yes Mannix bring statewide ID... but it isn't good. Mannix has become even more polarizing since last time and has some questionable baggage.

Atkinson is a man of values, speaks no ill towards the other 2 (unlike Saxton and Mannix who are running negative ads against each other), and the guy is consistent on his views.

Don't get me wrong Kevin is a good guy but the guy needs to hang it up, hes had 3 times to get elected and has struck out.

Heres why I don't believe Saxton will win the primary and why Atkinson has a good shot.

Saxton and Mannix have name recognition they have basically been campaigning since 02. Saxton on KATU, Mannix as ORP leader. Both cant get over 40% yet. Polling is also showing a HUGE amount of republicans are still undecided... wouldn't the people already have voted for Saxton or Mannix already if they were planning to? So what I believe that says is when push comes to shove they will end up voting for Atkinson because anyone who's voting in the primary knows who Saxton/Mannix are.

Saxton hasn't been able to gain ground no matter how much money he has, Mannix hasn't been able to prove why he can win this time (polling shows out of the 3 hes the least likely to beat Teddy). Well whats hurting Atkinson is his name recognition which now people are hearing about him, the more people here about him the more people like him and will vote for him.

I live in Beaverton and judging by yard signs and bumper stickers Atkinson is in 1st, Saxton 2nd, Mannix distant 3rd.

I just dont see how a PORTLAND lawyer can sell himself to republicans in Medford, La Grande, Pendelton etc

People who vote in primaries dont support RINOS thats why I believe Saxton is done.

" Looks like we are going to be stuck with Ron Saxton as our candidate."

I will vote tomorrow for Atkinson.
If Saxton wins Tuesday, I will not vote for him next November.

Me too. Wouldn't vote for Saxton or Mannix for dog catcher. They are Democrats.
