CARACAS, Venezuela Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said he could seek "indefinite" re-election through a referendum if the opposition boycotts upcoming presidential elections.
Chavez made the remark late Friday, saying if the opposition pulls out of the Dec. 3 vote or makes false claims of electoral fraud to the Organization of American States, "I would call a national referendum to have the people decide if I can continue here indefinitely or if I have to go after six years in 2014."

Chavez for Tyrant in 2006!
Sheehan insanity ping
LOL!
I'm sure Jimmy Carter will bless that!
He will only give up control over venezuela's oil revenues at the point of a gun. So he might as well just make it official and end the pretense.
Chavez to the opposition:
"Play fairly and legally," he said.
Is this any different than our congress critters? Time for term limits IMHO>
For God's sake, what is the use of being a superpower if you can't shoot dead a socialist tyrannical loudmouth like this one?

Old age ain't slowing down ol' Fidel.
Been there 47 years and counting. Think about it.
The 19th century was the high point of Western civilisation in many ways, not leashttp://www.timesonline.co.uk/global/t in the defence of its own values. Had Chavez been mouthing off like this in 1886, the West would have sent the marines and blown his head off with a large gun.
Now that we're so touchy feely and PC, what happens? We suffer because we have to put up with this nonsense. The people of Venezuela suffer because they're living with this idiot. The rest of South America suffers because of his example.
It was much simpler and much more humane to go the 19th century way - if there is some savage creating a problem that is creating misery and impeding civilisation, shoot him!

Years ago there were many Freepers who said that this would happen sooner or later, wonder how long it will take Bolivia's Morales to follow along?
As reported on a spanish speaking channel (I think it was from Peru)There seems to be some irritation building between Brazil and Argentina with Chavez and Morales trying to take over as leaders of South America.
You Brits have some pretty good spec ops. Of course South America is our area of influence, Chavez is our responsibility. But together we could start whacking some of these raving physcos. There are more than enough to go around.
I'd be delighted to pay a "Chavez surcharge" in my taxes if it meant we could eliminate him. Socialism is like a zombie that has to be whacked over the head with a shovel, lest it climb out of the grave once more.

That ought to hold it off another 5 years.
Fit me for a tinfoil hat if you will, but I still say this is the first step toward tyranny!
Of course! I forget, Chimpy Bushitler is the dictator...how silly of me. </Angry Left mode>
