CARACAS, Venezuela Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said he could seek "indefinite" re-election through a referendum if the opposition boycotts upcoming presidential elections.
Chavez made the remark late Friday, saying if the opposition pulls out of the Dec. 3 vote or makes false claims of electoral fraud to the Organization of American States, "I would call a national referendum to have the people decide if I can continue here indefinitely or if I have to go after six years in 2014."

Hugo's at it again ping.
Musta' read about Fidel's net worth...
Someone please get Sheehan's opinion on this... I'd love to hear her defend her buddy Chavez.
It would only further erode her already non-existent credibility.
The man isn't going to leave the palace alive. He will leave feet first. The only question is sooner or later. Lead poisoning, or old age.
He has narrowed the choices down to those two.
Now, my Venezuelan friends, what are you going to do about it?
I think a guy mentioned a remedy for this a little while back. If memory serves me right he got strongly criticized for it though.
"Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said he could seek "indefinite" re-election "
ROTFLMAO!!
In other words.."I'M THE KING!!!"
Can't we just finish off this oily runt?
"Well knock me over with a feather! I didn't see this coming!"
_______________
Me either! Who'd have thunk it?!? /also sarcasm
So, he's made it official...he IS a dictator.
So a Communist wants to break the rules...well I'm sure it's in the best interest of the worker...right...?</Sarcasm>
10 bucks says Hugo will get 100% of the vote.
To be fair oil exports are "only" down 40% since he took over. He might be able to ride it out till he dies before the whole country rots into the ground, but I Doubt it. Rebels will probably kill him within the decade.
The only way to get rid of him is with a highly skilled marksman or an "accidental" plane or helicopter crash. The sooner the better.
Venezuela is repeating its history. As they say, once as tragedy, then later as farce.
They are learning, again, how a Gomez managed to remain in power for 40 years. Easy. He just refuses to leave. Whole generations of opportunists use him for their own ends, as he uses them for his own.
In the end, every dictator is outnumbered twenty million to one. His regime, his hold on power, in the end, is a judgment pronounced upon a people who could not find the courage to refuse him.
Chavez should have been sentenced to life in prison for his original coup attempt, but populist politicians tried to use his popularity for their own ends. They tried to out-Chavez Chavez and wrecked the country doing it, and paved the way for the real thing.
Opposition political parties couldn't mount any effective opposition to Chavez because, in their heart of hearts, they agree with him. So, he swept into power in a landslide they were powerless to stop, they were powerless even to articulate why he ought to be stopped.
Even now that he has exposed himself as a dictator, who there can explain on a philosophical level why he is wrong? Until they can, no one will be able to mount any effective response to him, and he will rule until he dies of old age, or until one of his co-conspirators pops him and tries to take over the game for himself.
And, the Dems call Bush a dictator? Chavez is a red as they come. That's Commie Red to all. Guess Soros is happy about that. He is probably behind it.

Good Job, Jimmy...
Wow.
I bet Jimmy Carter wishes he would have thought of that trick..............
