Current poll:
"A time for choosing: It appears that a significant number of our members are so disgusted with the GOP's failure to secure our borders against illegal aliens that they are willing to risk all by voting them out of office, even if it means Pelosi, Reid, Hillary, et al, are allowed to take charge. Is this the best course of action or should we be working harder than ever to hold the line and actually try to make a difference by getting more constitutionally-minded conservatives elected? Are you willing to give it all up or are you more determined than ever to keep the Marxists out of power?" _____
So far, 13% of members and 18%+ of participants in this poll say - turn it over to the rats. What's with that? I cannot believe that 13% of those posting here are so stupid or angry with what is happening that they would turn to the rats for the way back to perfect. Now, 13% will result in a winning vote, in a lot of cases.
Anyway, I guess that there is no compromising for some people - just dig a hole and live there while the rats are in charge. I'm so disappointed.

Cva--fyi
Texasforever-- you response "balony"
Mo1-- your response, "I think you need to reread history".
Here is your history lesson that you evidently didn't read.
The Ford Memoirs Behind the Nixon Pardon
471 U.S. 577> On the Decision to Run Again. Ford was, he tells us, so sincere in his intention not to run again that he thought he would announce it and enhance his credibility in the country and the Congress, as well as keep the promise he had made to his wife, Betty.
Kissinger talked him out of it. You cant do that. It would be disastrous from a foreign policy point of view. For the next two and a half years foreign governments would know that they were dealing with a lame-duck President. All our initiatives would be dead in the water, and I wouldnt be able to implement your foreign policy. It would probably have the same consequences in dealing with <225 USPQ 1088> the Congress on domestic issues. You cant reassert the authority of the Presidency if you leave yourself hanging out on a dead limb. Youve got to be an affirmative President.
Someone, evidently, leaked this as it was common knowledge during the election.

Key sentence "Kissinger talked him out of it"
Meaning he never announced it
I was on active duty Navy during the last of Ford and most of Carters terms. The ships stayed mission ready. Morale was a huge issue as was discipline in general especially in 1976-77. The military became a go as you please operation. Meaning if you so pleased and wanted out all you did was go AWOL for 31 days and turn yourself in and wait for processing out under a General Discharge.
A note on this if a vet during that time says he was in the service for less than three years and got out they likely did this. There are exceptions such as Medical reasons etc though. But desertion was rather high especially for peace time. Carter stopped the walk away discharges and tacked on the AWOL plus Brig time as bad time, awarded the General Discharge, and made the person actually do their 4 years plus bad time.
Carter wasn't by any stretch a good POTUS but neither was FORD either. I see Reagan as being elected just at the right time especially on foreign policy matters. Four years earlier he may not have been as successfully due to economic concerns not at a peak in Russia yet.
The Key sentence:
" as well as keep the promise he had made to his wife, Betty."
Betty Ford, our first lady, was an alcoholic. She very well could have leaked the story. It was common knowledge where I lived.
There was also Martha Mitchell, the wife of the attorney general, John Mitchell, who used the call the press in the middle of the night and leak stories.
I forgot something :>} The biggest blunder Reagan made? GHW Bush :>} enough said.
There wasn't much difference in Ford and Carter.
Most people forget that Nelson Rockefeller was the V.P. under Ford. Neither were elected. Some people thought that Ford would not run again and that is the only reason Nelson Rockefeller took the job as vice president. When Ford said he was running for president, Nelson refused to run for the VP spot. He had already run for president 2 or 3 times and would not take the VP spot. Good old Bob Dole ran as the vice president with Ford against Carter and Mondale.
The Carter years were horrible. Not only militarily wise but those interest rates were up to 15% to 18%. Bad times.
Agree!
Over as DU they are probably jumping for joy to see Free Republic infested with threads bashing Bush and the GOP.
These members are among the Democrat's best freinds right now.
It a dream come true for the left.
It's much like what we are seeing today also. The Bush family by tradition was backers of Nelson Rockefeller starting with GHW 's dad Prescott Bush SR. There just wasn't any choice in 1976 after the primaries.
The Carter years were horrible. Not only militarily wise but those interest rates were up to 15% to 18%. Bad times.
Yea Brother Billy could have likely done better. I read the other day where Carter and Ford are now pretty close friends. But don't tell the party shills that LOL.
I say you're right!
"I say this is as good of a time as any to break with tradition...and call Specter to the White House and break the bad news to him...that Bush is POTUS, not him."
If you want to make them literally shake in their boots then support conservatives canidates only and forget the party. That will be their nightmare come true especially when conservatives in their own ranks get elected.
It's not just a dream come true for the left. I believe it's a coordinated and planned propaganda assault by leftists, designed to (hopefully) sway opinion and make more Republicans disenchanted with the Rep Party. After all...it IS an election year, and we ARE dealing with leftist liberals. Remember?
Amazing to me, that you could be this dumb and this shallow. When you learn how to think at all, you should consider posting again. Until then..........don't bother, no one will even read what you say.
Right which is why the GOP needs to do some cleaning out of it's own liberals. A liberal is a liberal. The blasted party letter after their name has zilch to do with how they will vote. Look at Specter and Chaffee.
I'm an Independent voter since after Bob Doles failed POTUS race and will remain so. If the GOP canidate wants my support they better get busy convincing me they are not a liberal the same with the DEMs and any Independent party as well.
I want Conservatives in office who abide by the Constitution of the United States and I don't care about their party identification. If you reasoned it out rather than listening to RNC propaganda you would as well. That is unless you think GOP liberals are special liberals. Liberal is liberal.
In fact you sound like you might be happy when House Leader Pelosi leads the charge impeaching Bush over the Iraq war.
Incredible.
Unfortunately we have political puritans who will turn on anybody over ONE issue and label them a "liberal".
Those who undermine the GOP and help get Dem's elected are simply serving the purposes of the liberals they claim to opposing.
Yeah, guest voters, good plan.
You wouldn't care if we get a couple more Ruth Bader Ginsbergs on the Supreme court?
