Well, you are asking a non-American something which never appears on the radar screen of this country. No one in New Zealand knows who this chap is or what he has done, but as the recurpussions of the CIA reaches this country, it is prudent for me to ask this question.

1st. Dem question: Do you know what it is like to have been shot at?

"I believe I'm getting that experience now, Senator."

"As is the case with the State Department, which is filled with people who are basically anti-American. Most "ambassadors" seem to think that they represent the interests of their assigned countries over those of the USA. How this happens, I have not the slightest understanding. But they are all "enemies domestic" to be sure."

Agreed.

Not without a warrant and a note from your mother, you don't! This is an outrage! If I want to call the enemy that's my right as an American. It doesn't matter what harm that will do to my country, my perceived rights are all that matters. (sarcasm off)

This man was in charge of the NSA wiretapping, from what I understand.

What you need to know is that our rebel, George W. Bush, is in a turf war with what could be described as a 'shadow government' which is protected and possibly led by rogues in CIA that have turned the agency into a modern day Praetorian Guard.

JFK wrote my tagline. I like yours. So true.

Even though Goss had a good reputation,

Goss merely filled a void. I saw him as a figurehead of "The Agency", because Tenet abruptly retired.

It is about time an NSA guy was put in charge of the pukes at CIA. Maybe he will purge it of state dept/communist influences.

There was a lot of push back today, from some pretty high-level Republicans. This is far from a done deal, is my take.

I got to Skivvy Nine at Osan AFB in '83, right after Hayden left. I have A LOT of confidence in this man. Hope he makes it.

"This is totally off-subject (well, partially), but what the hell did he do to be awarded a Bronze Star? I thought that was - at the very least - an "in theater" award...and this General's credentials lean heavily towards the academic end of the military."

I was temporarily based at Torii Station in Okinawa (NSA East) in 1969. My normal temporary posting was in DaNang. While at Torii, I was doing some new de-coding stuff after a short stint at NSA in MD to learn same. One day I encountered my CO from VN in the hallway, told him what I was doing and how that would be a great mission for our C-121's in VN. He immediately told me to put myself up for a Bronze Star which I never did. However, the next morning, I did have orders back to VN which is what I wanted and I proceeded to transfer the technology to our detachment in DaNang. Everyone was happy; the CO said I had saved the future of the detachment. Without the new mission, the detachment would have been discontinued. OTOH, I could have been based in Hawaii my last year instead of Goodbuddy AFB in butt-f..k, TX.

"...Hayden created and ran the NSA surveillance program that intercepts international communications ... 35 years ago.."

Then I guess I was illegal 38 years ago when I was doing this activity.

The problem for any of us wanting to get back in is that the clearance process is still screwed, thanks to Slick Willy.

2-1/2 years for a Genser Secret, can you imagine what it tekes to update an SBI?

Try 4-5 years.

I remain of the opinion that these leak investigations are about to touch members of Congress and other politically active individuals

from your fingers to my praying heart!

LONG overdue. I want to see the likes of RockyFella go down - all the traitorous rats get called out - the truth about WMD, etc etc -

Praying GOD has a hand in this - and the Nov elections go the right way. (From what I've been reading here in FR, of all places, too many fair weather pubbies getting weak kneed out there - or is weak minded?)

the headline that read "Lawmakers wary of CIA pick" tells it all. If they're nervous, he must be the right pick - besides the fact that he looks like Rove's twin brother - he he - that'll give 'em nightmares.
