This is totally off-subject (well, partially), but what the hell did he do to be awarded a Bronze Star? I thought that was - at the very least - an "in theater" award...and this General's credentials lean heavily towards the academic end of the military.
Unless I missed something, he hasn't been in a combat zone during his career.

This is a direct slap in the face to the Administration's critics. All the talking heads on the radio today were whining that the next DCI would be some neutered wimp who had nothing to do with anything controversial. This guy
ran the NSA intercepts program. This is flipping the bird at the Obeys, Durbins, and other traitors.
If you saw the presentation this guy gave on CSPAN about the NSA program you'd have been impressed with the passion he brought to his arguments. My favorite was how he belittled the term "domestic spying". He said he'd been on hundreds on "domestic" flights and never once got off the plane in Afghanistan or Iran.
If this Anderson Cooper scoop is true, kudos to the President for upping the ante. This is close to "all in".
To: NZerFromHK
He has been
outstanding on the NSA leak issue. I think he'd be a great choice.

It doesn't happen with every nomination, but with this nomination, the Roberts nomination, Dr. Rice's nomination, etc., the quality of people nominated is incredible. If it wasn't for the couple of goofs (like the Harriet Myers nomination), I think people would widely credit the Bush administration as having some of the most competent people ever nominated (though they are still not close to being as good as the founders).
