Study: Fox News Won Election for Bush
Newsmax ^ | 5 May 2006

A study by two economists found that the growth of the Fox cable news network in the late 1990s may have significantly increased the GOP’s share of the vote in the 2000 Presidential election and delivered Florida to George Bush.

"Our estimates imply that Fox News convinced 3 to 8 percent of its audience to shift its voting behavior towards the Republican Party, a sizable media persuasion effect," said Stefano DellaVigna of the University of California at Berkeley and Ethan Kaplan of Stockholm University.

In Florida, they estimate that the Fox effect may have produced more than 10,000 additional votes for Bush, the Washington Post reports.

That would clearly be a decisive factor in a state he carried by fewer than 600 votes.

Fox cable news debuted in 1996 and by 2000 was available to about 20 percent of Americans. That allowed DellaVigna and Kaplan to compare changes in the Republican vote share from 1996 to 2000 in 9,256 cities and towns where Fox News aired.

Are they sure it wasn't Bin Laden endorsing Kerry?

I agree. I travel a fair amount and one of the interesting things I have noticed is that the big city hotels seem less likely to have FOX than the medium and small city hotels/motels.

We are going to need all the balance we can get this fall. It is going to be brutal.

I would love to see FOX go overseas. I just got back from Canterbury and thought several times of how nice it would be to get FOX rather than CNN and the BBC.

Wow! That Bush DUI story that FoxNews broke in 2000 really helped him a lot, huh?

Does Fox still have the hotel link on their site that shows all the hotels/motels who show Fox?

When is there going to be a "study" about how the NYT resulted in Democrats winning in TONS of elections?

It's available in many foreign countries. I get it in Thailand (local cable company - not available country-wide). It's available in at least part, and given it's a Murdock station, probably all, of Australia. I believe I heard a welcome message a while back to viewers in Norway and also Ireland.

One network verses four, and Fox manages to fight above its weight. Newsweel boasted that the liberal press would deliver ten percent.

I seem to recall that the networks called the state of Fla. and the election early and incorrectly for Gore, which potentially caused many voters in the predominantly Republican south of Florida to stay home.

Had they not done so, the whole nightmarish circus that followed might never have happened. I'm sure they also mentioned this in their analysis. Yeah, right!

So does this mean if CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS were fair and balanced Bush would have won by a landslide?

I think somebody at Newsweek said off-the-record that he figured the MSM was so far in the tank for Kerry that it contributed to like 15% of the vote.

That is great news. I hope that it will be available in one of the places I go soon.

Thank you

***Yeah! They would have signed Campaign Finance Reform, spoke out to ban "assault rifles", loved the Communist Chinese, and practically invited illegal aliens into the country while calling people trying to stop them peacefully vigilantes.***

Your statements though a bad try at sarcasm are true. They would have done those things and many more. Obviously you forget how Clinton loved the Chinese . hoe Gore was his bag man , how Clinton gave secrets to the Chinese. The Dems are as guilty of catering to Ilegals as Bush maybe more so . Look at Kennedy's Amnesty plan. You seem to disagree with president Bush on these things , but you forget the Democrats are much worse.

There is a partial listing of int'l broadcasters here but is misleading as one outlet like starTV can be broadcast or picked up by cable companies in many different locations. For example Thailand is not on the list but where I live they do carry a number of startv channels including FNC.

Where are you going to?

Wait a minuite. My good friends at the DU insist that ALL of the MSM outlets have a right wing bias, not just Fox. So, why should Fox get all the credit for electing Bush?

My son had a different reaction when he heard this....he wondered how many voters for the left Fox produced by angering them. I suppose it would cause the same reaction if they measured what happened if I watched CNN.

Did you know that when she flies, she doesn't need to buy a ticket for a seat.

Yep, they just take them lips and stick her to the fuselage.

I sent them 150% of what I sent the Bush campaign, and I'm darned proud I did. They were wonderful, and are. John O'Neill is a class act.

LOL is right. It will be interesting to see what they say after the '06 GOP slaughter. *snicker*
