Betrayed Conservatives
Logic Times ^ | 04-29-06 | Dan Hallagan

The Left’s hatred of George W. Bush has no rival...

...or so it once seemed. But not so fast. There is a new breed of GWB hater: the Betrayed Conservative, a creature of surprisingly intense emotions for a member of the rational Right. The Betrayed Conservative is good news and bad news for the conservative movement. The good news is that there are vocal, passionate conservatives out there – large numbers of them – unwilling to accept anything less than sound conservative policy out of Washington. They are angry and active and have imposed some measure of discipline on that exasperating collection of spineless Republicans in the nation’s capital. At the drop of a bad Supreme Court nominee or immigration bill, the Betrayed Conservative explodes with the sort of colorful epithets that would make Al Franken blush. And make no mistake, Bush is their whipping boy, and they rarely stop at forty lashes.

The bad news is that Betrayed Conservatives are a political disaster. Betrayal involves a breach of confidence, but in the history of American conservative politics there has never been any confidence to breach, never been a reliable tradition of conservative policy in Washington implemented by principled public servants. Such animals have rarely walked the halls of the Capitol Building, and when they appear, they are hunted down by both the rabid Left and vacillating Right with the viciousness of ritual murder. Such creatures of principle – Newt Gingrich for example – threaten all pure politicians.

Actually I didn't say anything about "YOUR progress". You just projected that yourself. LOL.

The fact that you can't see any progress speaks volumes.

Usually, when someone is talking to me and they say "you", I think they're talking to me.

I'll try not to make such basic assumptions with your posts henceforth.

So, who does "you" mean? Conservatives?

Because you can't tell me that conservatives are that much of a failure. Conservatives are the most powerful force in American politics.

We have a nation of professional politicians , not statesmen . I'm starting to feel that , except for a VERY few, they are ALL out for power and personal gain and the public and nation be dammed. I sometimes believe the nation has completly been hijacked by these "politicians "types( both parties being 2 side of the same coin ). Few represent me at all anymore. The amnisty for illegal issue is an example . The vast majority of the nation wants tough immigration laws and it's ignored by almost everyone in office . they could give less of a damn what WE want for our country .

Again. "You can't SEE ANY PROGRESS"

Obviously, I mean't that to be progress in the conservative movement, not progress in your personal career. Now, I'm beginning to understand your posts.

Everything relates to YOUR PROGRESS.

You just described at least 90% of the rest of the population. Politicians are no different. What in the world makes you think that people want truly principled leadership? They say they do right up to the point of getting their own ox gored.

The only thing blocking progress in the conservative movement is the failure of the politicians we've labored for years to elect to implement conservatism.

We get tired of waiting.

That made perfect sense to you? How, pray tell can that be. You contradict this comment with your praise of the Minutemen in your own post.

Yes, at the time I understood where he was coming from. I do not support vigilante justice. You know, the old fashioned kind, the kind that I'm sure the President was referring to. Where citizens decide to take the law into their own hands and run amock. No one, including yourself, could have possibly known how the Minutemen would conduct themselves.

Well, time has proven that the Minutemen did NOT take the law into their own hands. And since that first comment from the President, I have not heard him refer to the Minutemen, nor anyone else, as vigilantes. The Minutemen have a "hands off" policy, so to speak. They have done an honorable job by merely watching and reporting (assisting, if you will) to the authorities when they see illegals trying to get across the border.

Nothing I have said is contradictory.

Since you've reached this point on the thread, I assume you've read all of my posts. If you have, you would realize that you're barking up the wrong tree.

Perhaps you should go back and reread your own post in #165. It was you who "made it about me".

" things are in the works behind the scenes "
yea , more plans , more talk , more bullsh*t, that's whats behind the scenes. If there is a plan it better come to pass quickly or else you'll have 22 million illegals getting the right to vote and the'll all vote democrat .

It would really help the situation if we didn't have opportunists sniping at the heals of a truly great President. But I know from experience that's too much to ask from some quarters.

Some conservatives, like the wolves, are concerned about many legitimate issues but would sacrifice or compromise the "illegal alien" issue in the name of party unity.

Other conservatives, like the pig, consider the "illegal alien" issue to be the 'premier issue' and if we lose it, we lose all the others as well.

Didn't say it was a good analogy. Just what popped into my head when I read your statement. ;)

I'm really not in the mood for one of your twisting arguments. Why does it take you two posts to one to defend an argument? Here it is in the full context....

Nite EV, hope you find a winner this time.......
