A federal jury decided Wednesday al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui deserves life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, on Sept. 11, 2001.
On the seventh day of deliberation, the jury of nine men and three women informed Judge Leonie Brinkema that it had reached a decision. The verdict was announced at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
Moussaoui, a 37-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent, is the only person charged in this country in connection with the suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.
The verdict came after four years of legal maneuvering and a six-week trial that put jurors on an emotional roller coaster.
The panel of northern Virginia residents was shown gruesome never- before-released images of the carnage that day, heard the first public playing of the cockpit recorder from United Flight 93 whose passengers tried to retake the jet over Pennsylvania, and watched and listened as dozens of victims and relatives described the horrors and losses they had endured.
The nine men and three women deliberated about 40 hours. They had found Moussaoui eligible for execution after more than 16 hours of deliberations in late March and early April.
Although he was in jail on immigration violations on Sept. 11, the jury ruled that lies he told federal agents the month before the attacks kept the government from identifying and stopping some of the hijackers.
Fear not, M won't be eligible for parole for 5-7 years and won't get a Presidential Pardon until a Dem sits in the White House.
BTW, jury selection is hardly random. They get 300 or so people called in and toss out, right and left, anyone that the lawyers, particularly the Defense, doesn't like the looks or attitude or answers of.
Maybe they'll be on the next plane.
Bwahahaha! LMAO. Dang this place is funny!
In my opinion, this verdict illustrates the utter stupidity of using the criminal justice system to deal with cases like this. The person or persons who are responsible for the decision to proceed in this fashion are not serving the public well, and need to be replaced.
He won't rot in jail, he will have warm meals, television, exercise, time to read, time to write his memoirs, etc. Not a great life, but not rotting either.
I hope they show many Christian Religious programs.
"scapegoating?"
Yes. He had nothing to do with 9/11. He was part of a future follow-up plot, possibly involving cropdusters. The dog and pony show the government put on was self-serving and sickening. Even some of the FBI's own witnesses cast doubt on the govt's motives in this affair.
You nailed it!

Whether he is made a martyr is in the minds of those who wish to see it as such. Meanwhile, we have tombstones as reminders of what he was convicted of participating in (through an act of omission). The just penalty here is death. The death penalty serves the ends of justice; and those who already rail against us with lies can distort that to mean whatever they want it to. They will anyway.
Must be the same OJ jury , a bunch of stupid ninnies who brought Kleenex to the courtroom to sob on behalf of a terrorist.
"This is not justice. The man was proven to conspire to an act of mass murder. The man was proven to actually abet the act."
No and no. Such was not "proven." He pleaded guilty for crimes other than he committed. Much to the great fortune of the Govt. who tried to pin their 9/11 failures on him.
If he hadn't pleaded guilty the govt. could very well have lost the case on the charges they selected.
Maybe he's to be in the virgin pool when his time comes...:-)
So, he's admitted guilt. Then, he's guilty. So, I shall amend myself to say that he has admitted guilt and should be punished accordingly with the death penalty. :)
Do you think this Country is concerned about officials at an American embassy. They will let them die before they would admit that the court system failed and it is no place to try terrorist. This was the most insane trial I have ever heard.
9-11 did not wake up even half of this country.
I say, make him a martyr to the death cult because it doesn't make a darn bit of difference anyway.
If he is alive, they have an opportunity.
Sadly, I was thinking the same thing.
He'll be protected by the many Muslim "brothers" (like Mike Tyson) that the Wahhabist prison ministries have been converting to radical Islam for two decades.
Flame away..the 5th ammendment does not require you to testify against yourself! That said..he's going to cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands in upkeep bucks from here on out.A bucks worth of lethel injection or a few stray volts here and there......hmmmm.
