And let me say that what I said above is my only moral objection to the death penalty. I have no problem executing someone like Saddam who we are 100% sure is guilty of murdering at least one person, even though I feel like it's too good of a sentence for him, unless it's painful like a slow hanging. But we can't have selective executions and I don't want innocents killed.

As the saying goes, I would rather see 1000 murderers go free than have one innocent be executed.

Interesting. I wonder what that equates to...another 100 innocent people killed, rather than 1?

Chena, if you read my other posts then you will see that I know that this is not the situation in US prisons today. But that doesn't mean that it couldn't be. We could reform the system and make prisons much tougher like my suggestions, with no visitors, no mail, 23 hour confinement, etc. This could all be done in under a year, and then people like Moussaoi could be moved into these units.

$100,000. Neal Cavuto was saying that.

How about listening to Baba Streisand music 24-7

Now that would be just plain cruel....

Chena, he feels he won because he's not going INTO the situation that I recommended for him. He won't be in solitary, he will have lots of interaction with guards, he will get mail, etc. He knows that he will be able to communicate with outside terrorists but if he was kept in solitary all of the time and had no mail right, I think he would prefer death. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to hang himself or something in jail.

If he won't be in solitary and he will have all the other things you mentioned in your comment, then one would assume that you would then prefer that he be put to death. Why would you want him to be able to communicate with outside terrorists to plot and plan once again the destruction and murder of Americans?

I'd like to find out what justification they have.

Too bad Giuliani wasn't on the jury, I think he'd have probably successfully led that jury down the right path.

I wonder which networks are already trying to get an interview with Moussaoui and how sympathetic they'll be.

Junah,

you wouldn't think that way if you were the one innocent.

No, he was arrested in August on immigration charges. He claims to have had the mission of hijacking a fifth plane with Richard Reid to attack the White House. The problems are Reid wasn't in the U.S., there's no evidence of a crew or actual plot for him to take another plane, and IMHO, The Pentagon plane was designated for the White House (and Flight 93 for the Capitol). Sheik Mohammad's statement was adamant Moussy was not in the 9-11 plot. There's no evidence he knew about the attacks in advance other than his own testimony, and it would have been an unlikely breach of A.Q. operational security if he did know.

The guy is scum, but his story about being on a fifth 9-11 hijacker doesn't add up.

"Looking at it from a legal perspective, I think this verdict is right. He did not actually physically kill anyone. Yes he trained for 911 but that doesn't mean that at the point of no return he would have gone through with it. (See the film Minority Report)"

That's not the issue at hand. He is not being prosecuted for a "thought crime". Many would then be subject to prosecution for what they are wishing they could do to Moussaoui right now. His "act" was the withholding of information that might have saved 3,000 lives. In football terms, he was a "blocker" that kept the "defenders" off balance so the "offensive rush" could breach the "defensive line". He was an *active* part of the conspiracy to murder thousands and for that *active* role he should forfeit his life for that *act* of assisting the hijackers to achieve their goal of mass murder. It is about actions, not thoughts, wishes or mere intentions.

Well I think that he should have special treatment and be allowed no outside contact due to the terrorist situation, even though it won't happen. Like it reallyh matters what I think anyway. I'm just a peon with my views and the decision has already been made.
