Sounds like something steinbrenner on Seinfeld would do! "Yeah, freeze that beer, george, that's a great idea!"
The best, fastest way to utterly destroy the flavour of beer is to freeze it.
It ends up flat, bruised and completely unpalatable, unless you've imbibed enough that your tasteBUDs are useless anyway. At that point, you are usually relying on the gag reflex to prevent alcohol poisoning.
Yes, I've consumed a few beersicles. No, I've learned that there really is too much of a good thing, and yes, it is quite unlikely to occur again.
Dang this maturity thing!! (: Þ)
Very good article. In past years I used to buy Budweiser by the case, but these days I favor Guinness, Tequiza, Fosters, and TsingTao, and haven't paid much attention to the various "Lite" beers. So it was interesting to read the marketing info.
I wonder, if you take beer, and modify it so that it has less hops and malt, haven't you basically just done the same thing as adding more water?
Reminds me of the old Aussie joke:
Q: "Why is American beer like making love in a canoe?"
A: "Because they're both f'king close to water." [rimshot]
American beer is piss water.
The American micro-brew tradition has restored my pride in our nations ability to brew a great beer. So far anything I've sampled is on par with the best offerings of even England and Belgium, true masters of the art. German beers are well crafted, but I couldn't name one I really feel are superior to American, English or Belgian brews. Then again, I don't live there and I'm sure there are plenty of micro-breweries in Europe that would make a compelling arguement (which I would gladly concede for a free sample.)
Anyway, everyone wins in a beer contest. Cheers!
LOL! Right after putting the uniforms in pizza ovens.
My taste buds grew up years ago. I wouldn't drink Bud on a bet. Sam Adams is good beer.
And that Aussie would be rite, mate!
Some American micro-breweries make excellent beer.
Lets get something straight right here, are discussing beer or are we talking about Budweiser (Buttwiper)?
There are tons of really great microbrews out there. So your blanket statement is incorrect.
The taste of Budweiser is obviously irrelevant. If not, they would have stopped brewing it a looooong time ago.
I'll drink Bud Light if I don't want to get drunk.
Hmmm. Mainstream beer in the mainstream media, both deadmen walking. Bugsrwiser than to drink or read dribble.
For mass consumption there is Leinenkugel or Island Wheat (supports our Island economy).
That assumes that you are dealing with real beer in the first place.
A colleague of mine used to run a 'British' pub in Florida. When some less adventurous locals would try the place and become a little over-whelmed at the vast choice of Bitters, Milds, Stouts etc they would often order 'whatever you have that's closest to american beer' and he would of course pour them a nice cold glass of water. . . . :D
