PROBLEMA PRO-ILLEGAL MARCHERS ALIENATING AMERICA (psychotic, provocative behavior foments crackdown)
NY POST ^ | May 2, 2006 | JOHN PODHERETZ

Posted on 05/02/2006 8:10:53 AM PDT by Liz

The organizers of yesterday's "Day Without Immigrants," who are also responsible for other recent demonstrations demanding special treatment for illegal aliens, have betrayed not only the people they claim to be helping but everyone else who is trying to find a rational and civil answer to an incredibly complex issue.

With their psychotically provocative behavior, these radical lunatics of the Left are moving the ideological goalposts of this debate toward the restrictionist Right. Unless they wise up, by the time they're through every politician in this country outside the inner cities will be paying lip service at the very least to a serious crackdown on illegal immigration.

You can see it happening already. Even before yesterday's shameful frolics, Hillary Clinton had begun talking about building a border fence - where, back in March, she was taking a soft line, complaining about Republican legislation in shockingly grand terms and comparing illegal immigrants to Jesus Christ. With her finger stuck way high up in the air to feel the distant breezes of 2008, Hillary realized that the air currents were changing.

Maybe a few months ago it seemed like good politics to be courting Hispanic voters by offering words of support for illegals. But Americans in both parties are now paying far more attention to the issue, and polling shows they just don't like the idea that the laws of the United States are being violated with impunity.

Being soft on illegal immigration is beginning to look like the new millennium's version of being soft on crime.

If they keep on pushing it, the politicians or government won't have a chance to handle things. Someone is going to get killed -- this whole thing is beyond stupidity and the ignorant masses are getting sucked into, basically, killing fields.

You know, if Democrats had been in charge on the Titanic, no one would have survived, because they'd have kept filling the lifeboats until they all sunk.

Actually, they themselves would have survived by reserving one big lifeboat for themselves.

Given that a lot of people on the streets 'protesting' yesterday were American citizens, where were the "12 million illegals"?

Lots of lessons learned yesterday. I hope our -R- politicians learned something.

“We believe this is a very small group of people who are making this protest for criminal behavior.”

Isnt' that what it was? A protest for criminal behavior (illegally crossing our border, illegally working without proper documentation)?

I saw this morning that they estimate there were only 1 million idiots protesting nationwide. They were expecting 1 million in LA alone. So, where were they all?

You're right. It is a tinder box, and when it blows, the MSM and Hill will blame the VRWC.

Every single online poll I've seen is running anywhere from 70% - 90% against illegals (variations on the questions).

This is the most comprehensive online poll I've seen so far:

No, they would have just denied that they'd hit an iceberg, even while the water was pouring in. ;)

I read news articles all day long, and have never read any reporting on the reason for this number: 12 million. Still looking for an explanation. It reminds me of the numbers thrown around about homeless in America. In many cities, an accurate survey could be done any night when the temperature goes below freezing. Every agency and charitable group who house the homeless on these occasions could report the exact number that they sheltered during the severe weather.

The police could check "under bridges" for hard-core street sleepers. Et voila: an accurate number. No one seems interested in doing this bit of practical census-taking.

So, where were they all?

They probably got the message that they'd be fired if they protested.

Since peaceful marches were a bust, they'll up the ante. What else can they do? They've raised unrealistic expectations with the mob, so we'll see burned cars, smashed storefronts, riots, etc.. The MSM will claim some right wing fiend with a sign telling them to go home and fix Mexico will be blamed for starting everything. We'll be back to the 'America is racist, where's the compassion, we're a nation of immigrants, can't we all get along' baloney. We have to learn to tap dance and chew gum at the same time, fight the WOT, put an end to Iran's nuclear ambitions, and deal with this mess at home. All at the same time, with the MSM colluding with the enemy, any enemy, and lying like a rug.
