Lighting up with young kids in vehicle banned under bill
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, ^ | April 8, 2006 | JAKE BLEED AND MICHAEL R. WICKLINE

House Bill 1046 started out as a joke to just about everyone but Bob Mathis. And now it’s his turn to laugh.

The Hot Springs Democrat and reformed smoker spent much of this week in strong opposition to a bill to ban smoking in most workplaces.

It was a Mathis amendment that came close to killing that bill, says Gov. Mike Huckabee, the primary supporter of the measure.

So when Mathis filed a bill Wednesday evening to ban smoking in cars carrying young children who are restrained in car seats, a lot of people laughed. They didn’t take him or his bill very seriously, Mathis says.

And I seriously doubt that they ever will again.....

I don't think that people should smoke with young children in the car.......but there are also about 1 million other things I think people shouldn't do (#43,975 is farting in elevators.....you just never know who is going to step in when those doors open), but I don't think this would be a very pleasant place to live if everything that people shouldn't do is made illegal.

Good thing we have the government to tell us exactly how to live our lives, cause otherwise we'd have to *gasp* think for ourselves.

Arkansas isn't the first state to do this.  Maine started this with Foster parents who smoke and who drive their Foster children around.  They are not allowed to smoke in the vehicle 24 hours before driving the child anywhere.

Maine:  Do not smoke if your a foster parent!  The DHS says so!  It's ok if you sprawl on the couch at night drunk though!

DHS creates smoking rules for foster homes, vehicles.

And I have seen some on FR touting Huckabees name for a Presidential candidate?? I don't think so!

This is total and utter BS! We are at war, have terrorists in our country, have pedophiles teaching in schools, thousands and thousands of them in our country and living in our neighborhoods, violent crime is up everywhere.......so much so they categorize it differently so it looks like a reduction, and all kinds of other MAJOR things going on in our country that puts everyone, including the children at risk for injury, disease, or even death, and all they can think of to address is smoking in a car???

Gives new meaning to the inmates running the asylum.

What a bunch of BS! (And I don't smoke)

Junk science scam. See:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,26109,00.html

"Thirty-three studies on secondhand smoke had been completed by 1993. More than 80 percent of the studies reported no association between secondhand smoke and lung cancer, including the largest of the studies."

They're one step away from monitoring our homes with either surprise inspections like a child smoking protection agency (paid with your tax dollars by the way) or get ready to install those state owned and run camera's in every room to protect the chil'ren. It's all about the chil'ren don't you know?

After 9-11, when our world as we knew it, turned upside down, it seemed that the war on the smokers by the highly paid anti-smoking professionals got even worse.  I could not believe it.

Like you said, all that we have to be concerned over, and these idiots can't see straight until they stop all smoking across the United States and even the world.  They are possessed.

There is a lot more serious situations going on around us today then having to worry about stinky cigarette smoke.  Ridiculous.
