Weekend Show *Preview* for 4/29 - 4/30 (not the live thread)
Network and Cable News Networks | 4/29/06 | Network and Cable News

Posted on 04/29/2006 9:00:07 AM PDT by Phsstpok

The main message is the Sunday Shows.  Message 1 will be the Saturday Shows and message 2 will be the show guest links post.  Then I'll post the ping list.

ABC This Week (George Stephanopoulos)

CBS Face The Nation (Bob Schieffer)

CNN Late Edition (Wolf Blitzer)

Fox News Sunday (Chris Wallace)

NBC Meet The Press (Tim Russert)

This is NOT intended to be the live Sunday Morning Talk Show thread. I trust AB will do that as usual. This is strictly a preview of who will be on the main shows. The idea is to give folks a chance to muster their resources for that thread.

I would particularly ask that anyone with specific knowledge or resources about the topics / guests announced for these shows post them here so that the rest of us can go into the shows with a heads up on what to look for.

Ping

The Weekend Preview Thread is up

If you would like on or off my ping list please Freepmail me

The most interesting guest to me will be Tony Snow, though I doubt it will be anything more than a continuation of Brit Hume's interview from the other day.  This will be my first chance to see both Bolten and Bodman in anything but a drive by clip, so I'll be trying to assess just how good they are.  I'm actually hoping to get some real, beneficial, information and debate about the oil "crisis" out of both MTP and CNN Late Edition.  I think both ABCTW and FTN are total set ups with predetermined outcomes.

And I don't know how to say this, but I'm holding out hope that Clooney will actually do some good today on an important issue and not take the opportunity to bash Bush or Republicans.  I'm not holding my breath, just holding out hope.  Then again, if he does do something reasonable it will change my "presidential" speculation from a joke to a weird possibility.  He'll be 47 in 2008 and 52 in 2012.  Hey, if Reagan could go from being an actor to president, then not only is it possible but Clooney's got LOTs of time... (oh, that's frightening... I wonder if someone on the left is really thinking that?  I wonder if I'm guilty of a "loose lips" type of mistake here?)

The dominant meme appears to be that there is an oil "crisis" and that it's not clear whose fault it is, but they know who they're going to blame, Bush/Cheney and their oil company buddies.  Bush may not be over, thanks to his finally listening to the talking heads and shaking up his administration, but it's probably too little too late since he didn't fire Rumsfeld and Cheney.   Let's start looking to the next (Democrat) administration and ignore everything this current one does or says from now on (unless it hurts Bush).  Oh, and why aren't we out of Iraq and into Iran yet?

Oil crisis? Sounds more like the topic de jour on a fairly slow news cycle. Also one that old media and the Democrats believe can be a vote getter.

Not much time today but I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning.

If I'm not on your ping list, please add me.

My contribution to today's thread is that Clair Shipman is married to Jay Carney.

This weeks shows are very predictable (though I may be pleasently surprised by MTP and CNNLE) and dealing with the "conventional wisdom" of the chattering class in Washington.

But I think there may be something out there to challenge that conventional wisdom. I think we may be about to see a cultural phenomenon unrivaled in the history of this country's popular culture.

United 93 is out.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm beginning to get the impression that this film might, all by itself, destroy 4 years worth of MoveOn.ORG propoganda about the WOT and get us back on the right track.  And the morons on the left know it and are doing everything they can to suppress it.  And it's not going to work.

See this FR thread for some of the evidence that is leading me towards this conclusion.

I'm contemplating a "Schroedinger's cat" quantum indeterminate state.  I think that by this time next week we'll be talking about a phenomenon sweeping the country and then the world, reminding people of what's at stake and what it is we're fighting about. It could easily go the other way, but the possibility really intrugues me.

Michael Moore is deeply saddened.

You weren't, which surprised me (I thought I'd put you on the list, even without your premission <g>).  You are on the list now.

My contribution to today's thread is that Clair Shipman is married to Jay Carney.

This is a Gomer Pyle moment:

"Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

Great catch.

Nice job, but what is "Meme"?

As defined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene (1976): "a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation." "Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperms or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation. ...

If your interested, I think the definitive work on this topic is Virus of the Mind: by Richard Brodie.  The analogy of a virus spreading is appropriate.  How it gets started and how it is pushed in various directions is the business of the drive by media.  An important concept.

You're analysis is amazing, Phsstpok and if the RNC doesn't hire you, they are missing a golden opportunity. Thanks for the ping and for all your work.

Watching Journal Editorial Report...and Dick Armey was NOT happy with President Bush capitulating to the calls for an investigation into price gouging...sigh

I am hoping since that was PRE-Tony Snow, maybe those kinds of "mistakes" won't happen..

I think Josh Bolton was there though...he needs to tell Bush that on this subject the Republicans really do have the upper hand...the DEMS have stopped every attempt that has been made to drill for our own oil...(also some WRONG Republicans)...

Do you not find it odd that not one show looks like it has a segment planned re: the big illegal immigration boycott on Monday???

I'm back in time for Fox News Watch and I am most interested in how Tony Snow will be handled. Last week, Gabler tried to say something ugly about how it wasn't really changing jobs but they were all ready for him and talked over him so loudly it didn't get noticed.

Mark Kilmer's preview is up at RedState.COM

Who's on the Sunday Morning Talk Shows (lineup)

For Sunday, April 30, 2006

Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert has the most exciting show of his umpteen-year career as host of MTP. Yes, he will discuss the price of gasoline with Energy Secretary Sam Bodman, American Petroleum Institute Pres. & CEO Red Cavaney, CNBC's Jim Cramer, famed nazi hunter Dick Durbin, and author/analyst Daniel Yergin.

FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace chat with some new White House personnel: Chief of Staff Josh Bolten then incoming Press Secretary Tony Snow. It's always nice to see Tony on what once was his show.

Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer talks has Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice then Senators Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos talks to Rice, then it's Chuckie Schumer vs. former Louisiana Senator Bennett Johnston, a Dem who lobbies for "BIG OIL"!

Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer talks to Rice and Trent Lott vs. Babs Boxer. Plus his usual cast ot thousands.
-----

Seriously, if you want to watch a show between 9 and 10 ET, this may be the week to skip Russert. FOX has the most interesting show of the week this week, what with all the cries of this and that about the WH "shakeup." Josh Bolten has to be a hot ticket, and Tony Snow is Tony Snow.

Secretary Rice takes three shows this week. After that, Schumer's marginal and Steph won't ask Johnston what he thinks of his replacement, Mary Landrieu. I'm not sure what to expect from Cantwell and Lisa M. Lott vs. Babs should be fun.

I shall watch the shows tomorrow morning and report what happened in the afternoon, right here at RedState.com.

OOPS...just came on...and I have to tell you...I didn't really understand Gabler's points...except they were against Bush, of course.
