Depression is a Neuro Biological disease and wishing good thoughts won't do anything for it.

NeuroTransmitters in the brain go out of balance.
This is why taking antidepression med is so important.

It often takes a few different types to find the right fit
for the imbalance.
That and talk therapy is very important.
There is a stigma with having Depression and other types
of neuro biological illiness because most people don't understand it is an illness just like being a diabetic.

Very true comments it is sad that in 2006 there is still a stigma to it if one has a broken leg or a serious physical illness one is treated so different from someone who suffers from depression or has had a nervous breakdown.

I speak from personal experience because my father had a mental break down when he was 21 due to being trapped down a mine for 36 hours and being the sole survivor in the pocket he was in. There were other survivors in the mine but not in that area.

Thanks for that explanation, it's exactly what my mom tries to tell me. As I said, she's so right about my not understanding depression, not being prone to it myself. THank goodness.

Second the motion.

Depression is often an inherited problem making enough neurotransmitters.

Because you don't have as much mental and thus physical energy as the next person, you can feel you aren't as good as the next person.

Medications can help boost your mental and physical energy so you can keep up with the crowd, and therapy sessions can help you undo the baggage of low self esteem that comes from fighting this condition over an extended period of time.

Regardless, you do need to be under a good doctor's care. If you're feeling worthless then a psychiatrist or someone else who can talk with you about how to undo the low self esteem is essential as well.

But, I'm sure at least half the people in the world aren't as neat as you are even now, and with treatment I'll bet few people in the world could hold a candle to you.

I know. Mine's genetic. My father has it, his father had it. I'm just tired of trying things. I've been to more than half a dozen counselors. I've been on at least 10 different medications. Nothing's helped. After my second suicide attempt, I was hospitalized for 10 days. I swore I would never do it again. Seven months later, I did. I get so sick of everything.
