Thanks for that explanation, it's exactly what my mom tries to tell me. As I said, she's so right about my not understanding depression, not being prone to it myself. THank goodness.

I think that is one of basic problems because someone who is depressed or has had a break down can look normal but is suffering from severe chemical imbalance which often affects how they see themselves in relation to the rest of the world.
This does not mean that they are not rational and cannot make rational decisions nor does it mean that their judgment should be questioned as regards to being a witness etc.
Because of the above often people suffering any form of mental illness are not willing to discuss it or admit they are suffering from it.
One possitive thing is that ilovew does discuss it here and this is healthy.
