Looks like the Iraqi army is starting to get a grip on their combat capabilities. Good on 'em.

You'd think with all the insurgent/terrorist widows and fatherless families out there these goons would be tired of having their asses handed to them. But Islam is blind that way.

It sounds as if those Iraqis were well trained, well armed, prepared and a littel battle hardened too.

This is impressive and encouraging.

I hope the Iraqi news gives them huge cudos and makes this big news for all to see.

Good and somewhat bad too. I don't want to sound like a sourpuss, but it is showing the audacity of the insurgency. Their attacks are becoming much more out in the open and not so clandestine anymore. I don't see that as such a good thing. The positive side to this is it will be easier to find and kill the bastards though.

I concur. I am still concerned with the insurgent's escalation though.

Someone mentioned on a thread yesterday something I've been thinking about: the US and UK have the only battle tested armies in the world right now.

Actually, I thought, the Iraqis are becoming battle tested as well. I don't know enough about the Afghans.

Definitely, not Al Qaeda. In every engagement, they get wiped out, the paradigm moves back to zero for them.

"Iraqi soldiers and police killed 17 and detained 28 responsible for the attacks."

Sounds like a rout of the terrorists to me, but then I am not (fortunately) the usual MSM leftist trying to spin everything against the USA. I'm sure if the major media bothers to report it at all they will be it sound like the Iraqi forces were besieged by terrorists (oops, I mean "insurgents" /NOT) and barely survived...... still, it does sound like things are going much better than we see in the MSM........

Regarding the widows and fatherless, I doubt the average "man of the house" that joins al-queda in iraq was exacltly "bringing home the bacon" prior to his martyrdom.
Are they likely missed in that sense?

Oops. Did i say bacon? silly me. "bringing home the goat meat or whatever" is what I meant.

Compared to Fallujah in 2004?! Are you nuts?!

Russia? If what we saw of their security forces in Beslan is any indication... Well...

"Russia? If what we saw of their security forces in Beslan is any indication... Well..."

I'm not suggesting that they're good or bad, only battle-tested as your first post states. The Russians fought 2 recent wars in Chechnia facing a lot of the same tactics that we are. That's pretty battle-tested in my book.

I would also suppose that we could name a fair number of African militaries that are battle-tested, what with the war in Congo and wherever else on that continent there's been trouble over the last several years. I just don't know enough about region's conflicts to name them.

What about Burma where the commie government is fighting a guerella war against insurgents? Or Columbia?

These aren't western armies, of course, but they have been tested in battle, right?

Fallujah was a localized event, much as other areas of Iraq have been. The attacks by insurgents have become more widespread and direct. I am not saying that the Iraqi forces or our forces are not prepared to deal with them, just stating the fact. I also do not believe, as some do, that this is any sign of instability or a slide into civil war. My opinion is there is a great deal of support, among not only the new Iraqi government but the population as well. The support we've continually had among the majority of Iraqis is and will continue to be a key issue suppressed by the leftist MSM. It is my sincere hope that the insurgents continue their (IMO) last ditch efforts to destabilize the country as it will give the Iraqis the opportunity to meet them head on and in the open. The more conventional the insurgents make the fighting the less likely they will succeed.

Yes, I feel this is a move of desperation. And it may just be a very fortunate one for both the Iraqi forces and ours. If the insurgents have any thought that they can fight on our terms, then I invite it, as I am sure the Coalition commanders invite it. They will learn that we master the art of conventional warfare and will die in droves!!
