UNITED 93 FReeper Reviews
self | April 28, 2006 | RobFromGa

Posted on 04/28/2006 1:21:50 PM PDT by RobFromGa

Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.

It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.

The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.

In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.

There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.

Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

I give in 9.5/10!

I also went to a 1:50 showing. I am still recovering emotionally. Great realism on the United Airlines flight. My father worked for the airline for 45 years and I took that flight many times. I have had the hot breakfast on that plastic square plate with the awful tomato sauce more times then I care to remember. I felt like I was one of them. I returned to my home town late Monday night Sept 10 on a United Flight in first class. I went to work on Sept 11 and was greeted by a call from my father that he knew he saw a United 767 hit the second tower.

another note: I looked on the move website on Drudge and although Robin William's film beat United 93 in total the per theater amounts put United in a big lead. at over $6.465 per theater with Robins film at 4506. If it gets into more theaters (only 1795 to Williams at 3639) it will be huge.

"The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics -- a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam. The terrorists' directive commands them to kill Christians and Jews, to kill all Americans, and make no distinction among military and civilians, including women and children."

Rejected by Muslim scholars? Am I correct that there is a verse in the Koran to kill Jews and Christians, to kill infidels? Or am I just imagining it?

Has anyone heard of Robert Morey and his book "Winning the War against Islam"?

I probably won't be able to see it until next weekend or the week after that since it is approaching finals time around here.

But, it looks really good.

Didn't see the A and E movie, but by all accounts, this one is much stronger. It puts you inside that plane. It will stay with you for days.

That poster was referring to Hollywood and the awards shows, not the director.

Thx CD...I just went to boxofficemojo and it looks like "Flight 93" to going to be quite profitable. It's cost to produce was around $15 million and it will return that plus make a tidy profit. If it tops the $100 mil mark, Hollywood will IMO become a veritable production line of 9/11 films.

I wonder if that POS has the guts to say that to anyone who lost a family member on 9/11. I doubt it.

The guy shaving his body hair was the one who strapped the bomb to his body. I figured he was shaving so that the tape would stick to him better.

OK, I saw it. I got all teary-eyed when we saw the 2nd plane hit the WTC and again when the United 93 passengers realized that this was not an isolated hijacking and that they had to do something even though they were all going to die. I was so impressed at their bravery. It was a very, very powerful film, and I'm glad I saw it. I do not, however, think I could sit through it again for a while. But I will definitely buy it on DVD. It's as important as any film about Pearl Harbor or D-Day.

One thing I did think could have been improved was the fact that, when the Muslims spoke, there were subtitles. But when they prayed, there were no subtitles. Personally, I would have liked to have seen the translation of their prayers to see if they were using those passages from the Koran that they say mean they need to kill us infidels.

We sat through the credits, and were very impressed that so many of the people involved on that day played themselves, including some of the men at the FAA, some of the air traffic controllers and some of the military personnel at NORAD. That must have been very difficult for them, and I applaud their efforts.

And last, but not least, I did recognize one actress in the film. Rebecca Schull played one of the passengers on United 93. I knew her from when she played Faye in "Wings," and relatively recently learned that she is Ben Wattenberg's sister. I don't know what her politics are, but Ben himself leans towards our side.

I happend to read the user reviews on this film from IMDB. This literally took my breath away:

Devastating, Relentless and Ultimately Cathartic…Essential Viewing. Period., 28 April 2006

Author: (I removed his name) from San Francisco, CA, USA

Someone from San Francisco gave it a 10/10. That is one of the more stunning things I have ever seen.
