In a just concluded debate and press conference, author and FBI Consultant Paul Williams and Jeff Epstein of "America's Truth Forum" reveal they have been advised by Pakistani journalist and Bin Laden biographer Hamid Amir that Al-Qaeda will use smuggled nukes against the US if the US takes military action against Iran.

Amir established his credentials by correctly predicting that Egypt would be hit by terrorist action a full two weeks prior to the events of last week. Amir, a Pakistani journalist, has been in contact with high ranking Al-Qaeda officials for several years.

Can be either. Definitely can be an initiator (which is what you mean by trigger) when generating a D-T fusion to whip up a burst of neutrons. No one uses polonium/beryllium these days, other than maybe someone whipping up a crude gun type device.

I don't know whether Jayna Davis' information is correct or whether Middle Eastern terrorists had a hand in OKC. I suspect that they did.

Either way, the elephant in the room is the way the authorities refused to investigate such a thing, ignored the witnesses and snuffed McVeigh pronto.

The math, however, says that Al Qaeda would be caught with a nuke long before they got one through.

That means that real fear doesn't come into play until after they've first been caught.

You won't understand that math. You won't accept. You'll deny it and post non-stop that reality isn't real...doesn't matter.

Al Qaeda would be caught long before they can get one through.

And that would change the entire game.

Only a couple of problems:

1) To pull off the "from one ocean to the other and in all major cities", lots of people are involved. OPSEC goes to he!! exponentially in ops that size. We probably break this up long before it gets close to being able to do much damage.

2) There are quite a few of us willing to exercise our second amendment rights (with extreme prejudice) in defense of the homeland. Mosques would be fairly high on my personal target list under these circumstances.

3) "the U.S. would be so tied up at home that it could not defend anyone in the Middle East." The majority of the U.S. military is unsuitable for use inside the U.S. on short notice (B-1/B-2/B-52 ... are not good in CONUS). They are then free to be used elsewhere. With the scenario you described, our military would be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to break things. I would not want to be on the receiving end of that little stress relief exercise. This all assumes that the National Command Authority remains fully functional (with fairly good odds that it will)

Final results:

- Israel will add some prime real estate
- Several muslim nations may need new governments
- CAIR will have significantly fewer members in the U.S.
- The number of U.S. mosques requiring Saudi funding ~ 0
- Number of wise a$$ dictators shooting their mouths off ~ 0

Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years and emits a very weak beta particle. That's not suitable for an atomic initiator at all.

D-T Fusion is the stuff of criticality and chain reactions...not super-criticality...certainly not with 1st generation weapons...certainly not with artillery shells or suitcase nukes (the topic under discussion).

Small nukes need lots of neutrons emitted from the initiator.

Our ability to restrain ourselves is underrated. We are the only nation to have used nukes and we will be loath to repeat that against a civilian population. That said, you are correct if a high megaton weapon is used against or population. Odds that this will be the case are low. A single 10 to 20 kt weapon though devastating will probably not trigger a massive response unless a nation state is directly implicated. I have my doubts that anyone would do it that way. Probably a surrogate would do the dirty deed and have sufficient cover to allow the leftists here to say: "are you sure?" and "slam dunk huh?".

Finding them would be akin to finding a needle in a haystack, IMHO. This is a pretty gigundo country, with a lot of square miles. All they'd have to do is find a nice farmhouse in the middle of nowhere..you think we'd find them? Nope! (Incidentally, there was a rumor that they had cropdusters stored this way, planning for a bio attack that hasn't occurred YET).

Interesting that NEST was deployed a few months post 9/11, though. And a lot of stories since then about really, REALLY low plane flights over DC by military craft. NEST teams probably aboard. Would be logical/likely.

Also - it's pretty well known that in the 60s, the Ruskies had small nukes in DC at the Russian embassy. Also that tactical nukes were produced by both the Russians AND the US (google it). These are highly portable, 10 KT+ (size that we hit Hiroshima with). They only weigh 150'ish lbs, so can be transported fairly easily.

Key thing to remember here - we're not talking about traditional nuke warheads, but something that is suitcase sized and VERY portable.

I'd actually be QUITE shocked if they DON'T have them here - I mean..wide open borders, fall of the USSR and "anything" for sale, etc. And if it isn't AQ that has them, it's the Russian Spetnaz, Koreans, Chinese, etc. BANK ON them being used in the opening salvo of the next major War - they are designed to take out Command & Control, ensure chaos, etc. And we probably have our own deployed in Russia, China, etc. for the exact same purpose.

Think Strategy here, gang. It's pretty obvious if you're on the other side planning for the "long term".

Not useable as an initiator? Your reading is a bit out of date. Do you understand how tube type neutron initiators work? Or the weak D-T fusion compression type initiator? My comment was to tritium being used in initiators in general, not specifically to gun type devices. Don't try to narrow the focus to cover an incorrect statement, where you jumped all over the newbie for stating tritium was used in initiators.

If you address just 1st gen. weapons, then we indeed are talking Po/Be only, for gun or implosion. Backpack nukes are not gun types, as you know.

Secondly you should know that what I said doesn't mean that I would vote for a Democrat, and further more it doesn't mean that I would stay at home and note vote (unlike several people here who are saying they'll stay home). Thus I'd love to know how you reached the conclusion that I think I'd get a better deal out of the Democrats (and the ironic thing is a few days back I was telling another Freeper that no matter what the GOP may fail to do, and no matter how frenetic its spending pattern is, it is still a multitude times better than anything the Dems can do).

However somehow you are omniscient enough to know one's voting pattern, and whether they are a fool or not.

As for what I said I still stand by it. A nuclear/chem/bio attack goes off in the US, and it is due to either border porosity or port inanity, and the GOP goes bye-bye as a viable party. Security is one of our prime bastions, and if we fail at that at such a level then you can expect voters to act in certain ways.
