Did McCain REALLY Say What I Thought He Said on IMUS This Morning?
Imus in the Morning ^ | 4-28-06 | Me--Report on IMUS

Posted on 04/28/2006 5:35:44 AM PDT by Pharmboy

The Set UP: Earlier this week, Boston area talk show host Michael Graham was interviewed by Imus on several issues, for example, Tony Snow, Bush and McCain. When asked about the "right wing" efforts to paint McCain as "crazy," Graham said that most of the time McCain sounds reasonable, but there is a fear that some mornings he wakes up and says to himself: "I think I'll limit the First Amendment today."

Well, Imus asked him about that this morning, and McCain said that yeah, they're talking about the Campaign Finance Reform Law, and that given the choice between (paraphrasing here) "...limiting a bit of speech and clean government, I'll take clean government every time."

I could not believe it...this guy is so out of touch, you cannot make it up. For this sound bite alone, I cannot imagine any true conservative supporting this guy.

It is mind-numbing to me for a US Senator to have no understanding of the Bill of Rights. George Mason and Patrick Henry must be spinning in their graves.

Indeed. Methinks McCain's mind was numbed for so long it has locked up. Anyone who thinks McCain is a conservative is a deceieved fool.

If he did say it, he was only mistakenly caught in a moment of honesty.

McCain has been dead in the water for some time now.

I heard it as well. I think that McCain is dangerous near a microphone or a cell phone. How could someone that obviously arrogant be president?

Gee, when put beside Hitlery's "We're going to take things from you for the common good." it makes a rather scary duet - perhaps they'll run as Prez and Veep in 2008...

Hillary Clinton: "We're going to have to take some things away from you."
Bill Clinton: "We could tax you less, and let you have more money -- but you wouldn't spend it right."
McCain: "You have too much free speech."

The media loves these people. Many Americans are in the dark, but when their eyes are opened, they shudder is disbelief.

I think McCain is definitely a conservative and I'm no fool. I disagree with him on CFR, but do not see this as and end of the world deal breaker. He's one of the very few potential R candidates that I trust regarding the war on terror. If he gets the R nod, I'll work hard to make sure he defeats whichever D candidate is running.

McCain is damaged goods, spending time in a POW prison for years has really screwed him up. He is nuts and power hungry and that is all he's about. I don't believe anything he says or does, he's the real Manchurian Candidate!

McCain understand the constitution and the bill of rights. Clearly, he thinks himself and his policies in these areas above it. That alone should disqualify him for position or vote...but the net results of public education on the masses has rendered most ignorant of these facts IMHO.

Such words and actions by McCain violate the very letter of his own oath to uphold and defend the constitution.

IMHO, if those founders whom you mention were alive today, after years of trying to right things through parlimentary process (as they tried with England), they would have already taken up arms and corrected things,...or they would be dead.

You have to remember that McCain was one of the worst abusers of Campaign Finance. He's like an ex-smoker.

I have heard from others on here that they really believe McCain is crazy. I would not be comfortable voting for him.

and that given the choice between (paraphrasing here) "...limiting a bit of speech and clean government, I'll take clean government every time."

So McCain saw CFR as a choice between limiting free spech and 'clean government'? He was successful in limiting free speech, but the clean government part hasn't worked!
