WASHINGTON - As gasoline prices have spiked above $3 a gallon throughout the country, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that the publics view of President Bushs job, the economy and the nations direction have continued to decline. But with the midterm elections just six months away, the biggest drop in the survey 11 points in one month is in the approval rating of Congress, which is locked in a bitter debate over what do about these gas prices, immigration, Iraq and a host of other issues.
You have never seen such a sour mood in the country, says Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican Bill McInturff. It is sour, sour, sour.
And in that sour mood, the poll shows, registered voters say they prefer Democrats controlling Congress but by a smaller margin than in the past few NBC/Journal surveys.
According to the poll, Bushs approval rating fell by one point from last month to 36 percent, his lowest mark in the survey. But the troubling news for Bush doesnt stop there: Hart explains that Bush has now spent nine consecutive months at 40 percent or below in the poll, a feat exceeded only by Richard Nixon (13 months) and Harry Truman (26 months).

We got a live one....
"DEMOCRATS refuse to let us drill for oil in Alaska"
"DEMOCRATS want us to stop driving to save Mother Earth and champion high fuel costs as a way to conserve."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Yes, I would say that YOU are brainwashed!
Total B.S.
I would like the Senate and House to put forth a bill in the mandating a law that ALL STATES must present everyone who purchases gas to receive a receipt that has a breakdown listing the price of the gas, the federal tax per gallon and state tax per gallon. At the end of the receipt, it should have the total federal tax amount paid and total state tax amount for that purchase.
Then maybe Americans can see who is really gouging the taxpayers of this country. It's not the oil companies is it?
Thank you
I don't see the constitutional authority for something like this.
I don't know if there is or not, but when you purchase something at a store, the receipt you receive shows the tax. Why not a gas receipt?
HAlf a million sperm & you were the fastest? Geez.
Welcome to FR. You will find many OBL's Rinos on this site, many of whom have expressed the ideology that our country equals our economy. They also like to ZOT any newby who disagrees. Sadly many think that might makes right.
A moose bit my sister, now I have to pay $3 a gallon for gas.
Dammit Bush!
Watch your own a$$ backing up an obvious troll!
Then give him a chance to prove it. So far he is just the loyal OBL opposition.
Thanks, I am new here. I am a Republican and have been for 25 years - perhaps I should say from the old school of thought (the 1980's & 90's) and I love our country.
I truly think it is sad how everyone just bashes eachother - both Dem's & Rep's. What hapen to different opinions? Why is someone who believes different called 'stupid'?
I do not like the direction that we are heading. I think it is very sad...
Greetings, n00b, and welcome to the world outside of the DUmpster. Stick around. Listen. Learn. You'll come to realize that fresh air and sunshine beats dwelling in the darkness and slime of the Underground.
Fine! Then let's all but our state legislators.
gee thanks for those kind words...
Just reinforces my point earlier...
You'll find out that when the arguments don't hold water, there will name calling, heckling, oh and a good strawman or two.
Nobody called you stupid.
Just an uninformed, DU, leftist, treehugging troll.
But not stupid.
