WASHINGTON, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent nationwide street demonstrations by illegal aliens and their supporters, demanding amnesty for 12 million or more illegal immigrants, have been portrayed in the media as representing the views of all Hispanics in the U.S. However, according to opinion polls, including one conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center, Americans are divided on the issue with 53% saying that people who are in the U.S. illegally should be required to go home. According to the Pew Study, a growing number also believe that illegal immigrants are a burden to the country, taking jobs and housing and creating strains on the health care system. These facts reflect the position of many Hispanic-Americans -- citizens, legal immigrants and the children of immigrants -- who strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens and support enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. In response to the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who have been marching under the Mexican flag demanding to be rewarded for having violated U.S. immigration law, a new coalition has been formed to accurately represent Hispanics in the U.S. who work hard, play by the rules and want the opportunity to see their own kids get ahead. Known as "You Don't Speak for Me," the coalition aims to dispel the impression that the people out on the streets represent the views of all Hispanic-Americans.
"Politicians and the media seem to believe that Hispanic-Americans hold a monolithic view on the subject of immigration," said Pete Nunez, a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and a spokesman for the group. "In fact, millions of Hispanic-Americans -- including many who have gone through the immigration process the right way -- are offended by the demands being made by people who have broken our nation's laws. We are even more offended that the views of Hispanic citizens are not being accurately portrayed."
The "You Don't Speak for Me" coalition supports the strengthening and enforcement of U.S. immigration laws, including manpower and barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border, denial of non-emergency benefits and services to people who are in the country illegally, and vigorous enforcement against businesses that hire illegal aliens.
"Hispanic-Americans are often the people who are harmed the most by our government's failure to enforce our immigration laws," Nunez said. "More often than not, it's our jobs, our social services, and the education of our children that are most adversely affected by illegal immigration. A massive illegal alien amnesty, with millions more relatives being allowed to enter the country, followed by what will likely be an even greater wave of illegal immigration will de devastating to the country and particularly to Hispanic citizens."
With another round of illegal immigrant demonstrations scheduled for May 1, "You Don't Speak for Me" is urging the media to portray fairly the views of Hispanic-Americans on this issue. "You Don't Speak for Me" spokespeople around the nation are available to speak to the media to present a balanced picture of Hispanic-American views on illegal immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens.
Press release. Hope it is not ignored.

Doesn't seem to be a website up right now.
I can't find anything. Yet.
I'm not holding my breath waiting to see it in the NYT or CNN.

Good for them, and it's shameful the media isn't reporting this. They know the community isn't joined on this issue. I have my doubts our politicians know it since they trust the NYT's above all, but the media certainly does because it's been questioned in their own polls. they simply censure the results.
No one in the media is speaking out for us who want security for this nation to present a balanced picture of why securing the border is important and strong legislation against all the illegal aliens who have flooded into this country uninvited and are unwelcome.
I hope their important message gets through.
Gee I've only been saying this for year...
just about all American come from some other Nation of Origin (if your people have been American for ten generations they still came from some where else)...and many American have this happen where the supposed to answer the call of the "old country and blood" to show there loyalty to "there (old) race/people" over American .....
There a damm lot a great American of Mexican / Hispanic Origins want to tell these people to go to hell...

Good job seeing this and getting it posted.
Of course, in doing so, you're peeing in the Cheerios of the Freepers who delight in claiming we've got some sort of anti-Hipanic agenda.
But then they've gone so far away from "pro-American" for the sake of a personality cult that what they think isn't relevant.
About time. I know many Hispanics who can trace their ancestry to the 19th century in Texas. They are wonderful people and many of them are my good friends. We have plenty of those Hispanics in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and small towns in Texas.

Sometimes I get very frustrated.
Thanks for the posting.
One more bump. Thanks for the link.
I would love to see more Hispanic Americans interviewed that are not in agreement with the illegal protestors. I personally believe, too, that many Hispanic Americans I know would fit well in the Republican party when it comes to both their work philosophy and more conservative value system. I hope that they can relate to why many Republicans are so strongly in agreement that strong enforcement needs to take place. It is to protect all us Americans.
Hard for me to gauge what's going on Hispanic American's minds and hearts.
I know I will not ever bring this subject up with my wife's Mom or one of my wife's brothers. It would get ugly quick because the minute I would say I believe we should be able to have border control, I'm a bigot.
I love my mother in law and the brother in law, but I'm sick that by me simply wanting Immigration Law to be enforced, in their eyes I'm prejudiced.
I'm sure you see and hear a lot more than I do. Shed some light if you don't mind.
