For me, my entire family, and every hispanic I personally know, it's clear-cut: cut off ALL state and federal welfare for illegals NOW; secure the border and jail or deport the illegals;
But we're also clear-cut other points: we are not a monolith and it should be assumed that just because we're hispanic that we support illegal immigration; the first guy who stops me and asks "papers, please" just due to my ethnic appearance will get a knuckle sandwich; dinosaurs like this piss us off: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1624811/posts?page=30#30
DOH! That should be "should NOT be assumed that just because we're hispanic...."
where do you live may I ask?
West Texas.
Tell me you're not STUPID enough to allow yourself to be cowed by such shameless slander when YOU MARRIED YOUR WIFE!
My wife is with me 100%. But it's still her Mom. Her Mom as a lot of resentment in her on some issues; I have no idea why.
My wife is 50% Mexican, 50% Polish as are her brother and sister. I can talk about anything and everything with them.
But Mom and her son from a previous marriage - no way. The guy is salt of the earth in most respects, raised 2 awesome kids and is a good guy. But he's got a serious case of Mexican Pride that in my opinion he puts too much of his self worth into.
We've talked briefy on some issues where I voiced displeasure about the god awful loud BOOM BOOM stereos the Mexican kids blast all the time in my previous neighborhood, and he got bent out of shape because I said it was Mexican kids.
Anyway, if the immigration subject ever comes up at a family function, I'll stay out of it. If they insist on dragging me in, I'll speak my mind. If they get mean and accusatory, I'll put an end to it quick and let them know I won't stand for it. I told my wife this, she's with me 100%.
But again, its her Mom that we both love.
One day I was in a New York shop and the owner, a first generation Pakistani immigrant, asked me where I was from. I told him I was American. He replied by asking where I was really from. I told him America and asked him why he didn't know what we looked like. He then stated that the only real Americans are the "Indians and they are all locked up in cages." Through my anger and frustration I was able to tell him he was looking at an American and I was not in a cage. ISN'T THERE A REQUIREMENT THAT IMMIGRANTS KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT OUR COUNTRY BEFORE BEING CITIZENS? It is a dangerous thing to fill our country with ignorant people!
Oddly I was just talking to a friend of mind who is a legal immigrant from India...apparently Indians (from India) and Pakistani are not classified as minority but as Caucasian by the US government so no minority preferences in hiring, collages, government business & loans etc. etc.
