Brainless in Boston (Boston Pols Demand That Other States Change Their Gun Laws)

Boston Polls Blame Other States for Boston's Violent Lawlessness

If you need any more proof that Liberals are ignorant beyond education and stupid beyond medical help, this month's Boston Magazine serves-up yet another heaping shovel-full of proof.

One of the most popular science fiction genre involves the "failed society" plotline. From "Guliver's Travels" to the wonderful 1950s novel "Search the Skies" to the chilling 1990s' "Screamers," it is fun to read about societies that have crumbled and returned to a savage, lawless existance. In the real world, the Blue cities won by Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 (in 2004 Chicago, with a straight face, declared Kerry had won in the city thanks to 103% voter turnout) are filling the bill. These deseased metropolises -- failed Liberal enclaves -- are collapsing and like a drowning man are frantically clutching at others, threatening to pull both under water.

"The Way of the Gun" (not availabe online) starts with a huge -- and I mean HUGE-about-three-times-actual-size -- picture of a Hi-Point .40 semi-auto, glowering menacingly at you from the first page. The article is a Tom Meninoesque screed about the fact that the rest of the United States refuses to ban the sale and ownership of guns to the law-abiding. It fails to mention such acknowledged facts that 47 out of 50 states now allow people to carry comcealed weapons, and that in every jurisdiction that allows such, violent crime has decreased (MA allows CCW at the police chief's discretion: Boston's COP reportedly simply denies all applications).

Instead, we learn that one career criminal has spent several years buying 19 guns in other states and then bringing them to Boston and selling them on the street to other career criminals and gang-bangers...

My .44 Mag beats their .40 semi-auto. By the way, is it something in the water up there that produces so many idiots?

Ron, Jr. is a pimple on Zell's posterior. If I had been in the room after he delivered his anti-Dubya eulogy during Ronaldus Magnus' funeral, I would have bitchslapped him.

I suggest Boston change their government's lax policy of coddling law breakers and citizen's life style so they would not attract and breed such freaken immoral criminal pervert perps.

Well... the old truism that ignorance is remediable but stupid is forever still holds true.

We know where Boston falls...

Don't think that they won't try, especially if Democrats (the party of murder, appeasement, treason and socialism) acquire the levers of absolute power.

Then, many of these pols will learn how difficult it will be to maintain a 'safe' 400 yard perimeter.

I'm headed out to the range tomorrow. My wife invited our newest police officer (ex pat from CA and Oregon) to join us. He wants to buy a 45-70 lever action. I'm bringing mine so he can see if he's up to that kind of recoil. We're also going to play a bit with some new holographic sights on Ruger MKII and MKIII pistols. I have a new Williams FP sight on a T/C Contender G2 .357 magnum barrel to sight-in as well. I may just pop off some .454 Casull in the Encore S&W 460 Magnum barrel too. Last, I'm going to see if my downloaded Win 30-30 rounds (100 gr Plinker bullets) are less painful in the G2 with 10" Win 30-30 barrel. The weather looks like it will be perfect for the outing!

The nutballs in Massachusetts can eat my shorts. They deserve the kind of government they elect. Kerry and Kennedy are socialist, gun-grabbing slimeballs.

Amazing. Those states that have reasonable (did I say that?) laws have low crime rates. It seems they export all of their possessed firearms to Boston and New York and keep the well behaved ones for themselves.

Liberalism truly is a mental disease.

Hey, you have any pet loads for that? I have a new (to me) Contender w/30.30 barrel and I need to dial it in this spring.

Also, I wonder if the old Contender frame can handle .454 Casull loads. I would love to have a .45 barrel reamed for that.

I purchased a copy of the 30-30 loadbook. The first load for Speer bullets uses the 100 gr "Plinker". The "Plinker" is readily available for sale. I used the minimum charge of Win 748 as that is what I had on the shelf. I'll be trying it out this afternoon. A standard 150 Win 30-30 smacks my hand too hard with the 10 inch octagonal barrel on a G2 frame. I'm hoping the downloaded version will be more pleasant.

The Contender frame will handle for .454 Casull just fine, but I would recommend buying a barrel made and tested for that cartridge. The top pressure is 60,000 CUP. Much higher than the 45 Colt. The 460 Magnum barrel on the Encore has an even higher rating. I would not risk my life with a chamber reaming job on the 45 Colt. Barrels are relatively inexpensive at MidwayUSA or Natchez.

Bloomberg is doing the same. Frikkin' liberals are like a disease; they know no borders or boundries.

I have never seen a .454 barrel for the original Contender frames. I will look some more. I will have to look into the pressure issue with the .45 barrel.

I will be working on a 150-165 gr load for the 30-30. Something I can hunt with. I just wonder what the best powders are for the short barrel/large case problem.

Also, someone (Speer?) used to make some spitzers for the Contender that were designed to work at the reduced velocity. I need to look into whether they still do. I think the .30 may have been a 130 gr.

Neither E Arthur Brown nor Bullberry offers even a custom barrel in .454 Casull for the Contender frame. Not even SSK Industries offers it. You'll have to go with an Encore frame and standard 460 Magnum barrel to launch .45 Colt, .454 Casull and 460 Magnum cartridges.

The 10" 30-30 barrel on the Contender is a bear with a 150 gr load. They aren't sold anymore. Standard is a Super-14 barrel in Win 30-30. Speer has lots of choices. I put my T/C load books in the garage, so I don't have access to the range of choices.

I haven't found the 150 factory loads to be objectionable (shot 3 boxes so far). I doubt they are very efficient in the short tube, though. I'm sure a faster powder could improve velocity. I guess I'm gonna have to get a chronograph...

I just returned home from the range. The 100 gr "Plinker" rounds built to the load book specs with Win 748 powder are pleasant to shoot. Recoil is on par with a 44 magnum. I tried them in a 30-30 lever action rifle. Likewise pleasant. I have no problem with the 150 gr loads in the rifle. It was a pleasure to shoot.

I sighted in the holographic sights on the Ruger MKII (Bushnell Holosight XLP) and Ruger MKIII (BSA RMRS). Once sighted-in, the smallest spinner was easy to hit. It would be great for rabbits with the pistol if Idaho permitted that kind of sight for hunting. They don't.

The Williams FP sight with .050 aperture is a tack driver with my 38SPL loads at 25 yards. Even the full .357 mag stayed relatively on target after sighting with the 38SPL.

I put the new 460 Magnum barrel on the Encore. I couldn't hit the paper with the 45 Colt rounds. I stuffed a .454 Casull (200 gr, 37 gr W296) in it. Bingo. On the paper. A couple more rounds of .454 and it was on the bullseye every time. I tried the 45 Colt again. If I aimed at the bottom of the paper target, it went in the bullseye too. Seems I'll have to decide whethers to shoot .454 or 45 Colt in that barrel. I have 460 brass coming in the mail tomorrow. Just for drill, I shot my Birchwood-Casey spinner with the .454 Casull from the T/C Encore barrel. I've done that from the Ruger .454 with 7.5" barrel and left a moonscape on the surface. The 15 inch T/C Encore barrel almost punched a hole in the 3/8" steel with the .454. Clearly a much better muzzle velocity with twice the barrel and no pressure loss from the cylinder/forcing cone interface of the revolver.

When we returned home, my wife resumed cleaning the carpets. I ran a bore snake with CLP through every firearm we fired at the range. A more thorough brush and patch with jag is warranted when I have a little more time. The 30-30 rifle I purchased Tuesday is an old Sears "Ted Williams" lever action manufactured by Winchester. I need to do some work on the finish as the tang has some rust from finger acids. A couple spots on the receiver need some attention too. I'll have it looking factory fresh soon.

Sounds like you had a blast. I am going to try and get out Sunday for a little range time. That .460 should be quite a big game gun. For the record, I never considered the Contender to be a "hand gun", rather a cut-down rifle. I've taken several deer and a bear with my iron sighted .44 mag. A scoped single shot is a different world from an iron sighted wheel gun.

My hubby has that TC addiction, you know the one where you buy more barrels and then have to buy more frames...LOL

Over the years he has purchased a fine collection of hot calibers, such as 7 BR, 357 Max, 375 JDJ, 444 Marlin Custom JDJ. The only problem was the 444 when he was working up some "HOT" loads for an IMSHA match. The JDJones barrels were all vented and that seems to accentuate the straight back recoil, since venting eliminates the rise of the recoil. Well, after quite a few of those hot loads, he sheered the bolt that goes through the frame into the grip.

I have shot every TC he has repeatedly, except for that 444 Marlin. One time only for that. It was the meanest, most painfull gun I could ever imagine. You guys shooting those bad boys are all crazy! LOL
