Barrels are relatively inexpensive at MidwayUSA or Natchez.

I have never seen a .454 barrel for the original Contender frames. I will look some more. I will have to look into the pressure issue with the .45 barrel.

I will be working on a 150-165 gr load for the 30-30. Something I can hunt with. I just wonder what the best powders are for the short barrel/large case problem.

Also, someone (Speer?) used to make some spitzers for the Contender that were designed to work at the reduced velocity. I need to look into whether they still do. I think the .30 may have been a 130 gr.

Neither E Arthur Brown nor Bullberry offers even a custom barrel in .454 Casull for the Contender frame. Not even SSK Industries offers it. You'll have to go with an Encore frame and standard 460 Magnum barrel to launch .45 Colt, .454 Casull and 460 Magnum cartridges.

The 10" 30-30 barrel on the Contender is a bear with a 150 gr load. They aren't sold anymore. Standard is a Super-14 barrel in Win 30-30. Speer has lots of choices. I put my T/C load books in the garage, so I don't have access to the range of choices.
