April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.

The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, “categorically denies being the source of the leak,” one of McCarthy’s friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beer’s role as the Clinton NSC’s top intelligence expert.

The only thing you left out were the indictments and the trials. If these %*@*!! Democrats can screw Scooter Libby for nothing, then some of these Democrat idiots should be facing trial for their intentional breaking of the law here.

She's rescinding her confession apparently.

I heard she flunked a polygraph. Where did we hear that she confessed? I must have missed it.

By then end of the week the headlines will be something like, "Courageous Whistleblower claims witch hunt to distact from Plame-Libby-Cheney-Bush-Gas Prices-Iraq

In addition, don't forget that every time the kitchen gets hot for the demRats, they pull some major lying charge out of their Pandora's box to obscure and override - and the MSM will pick up their ball and run with it.

Just have to wonder what it will be this time?

I know very little about the CIA, but I failed a polygraph when I was telling the truth (it was a pre employment screening, I answered truthfully but I was so nervous that I must have pegged the damn thing even on my name).

That sounds possible but can they force a polygraph on a person because they're on probation?

There is a Washington Post reporter who can rot in jail until she divulges the source. Will she rot in jail or will she rat the rat.

These fools.

The media, including FOX NEWS was completely ignoring this story.

If they just shut up it would go away and no harm/no foul.

Back in red on Drudge, NBC now believes they have a "scoop", the democrats decided to play with this and I pray they get burned. No one knows what the CIA/Justice Department have on this woman and her accomplices. It could go as far as Rockefeller/Durbin or even higher.

It was in the offical CIA statement to the press. They would not say it if it was not true, knowing how big this story would become.

Max Holland, who has written two articles for the C.I.A. journal, recently reported in The American Spectator that the online posting of unclassified excerpts from an agency review of the failure to assess Iraq's unconventional weapons accurately had been delayed for seven months.

So Iraq did have an unconventional weapons program and Goss isn't going to let it be reported until after the election. Now I'm becoming convinced the Republicans WANT Hillary in office.

Yes they can if it was part of the deal made with the prosecutors and the judge. Only the defendant, prosecutors, defense and judge would be aware of this, and it would be a condition of the deal that if that information was leaked he was doing this, the deal would be off.

I suspect your guess about Berger is correct. He's been turned, perhaps even wearing a wire.

Dana Priest said in her lecture at UCSC that the secret prison story started right here on FR, although she said "a conservative website whose name I can't remember" She talks about the "secret prisons" and the turmoil at the CIA. Video of her lecture is posted here. It is about 58 minutes long. FR reference starts around 27:30.

The CIA's Secret War

The thread she was talking about is here: Mystery man handed over to US troops in Karachi

.....The prosecution now has probable cause for search warrants and subpoenas and everyone around her is freaking out so now she's denying it........

Have the warrants been served? That's what I want to know.

Any word if Goss or anyone from the CIA will make a formal anouncement of these leaks?

Or did I miss it?
