Bush Says Massive Deportation Is Not Realistic(Ike did it, so can Bush!)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 11:01 AM PDT, April 24, 2006 | James Gerstenzang and Michael Muskal

President Bush in Irvine today called for a rational, temporary guest worker program and said that attempting to deport as many as 12 million undocumented workers illegally in the United States was a policy that was not going to work.

Bush capped a four-day trip to California with a visit to the Orange County Business Council, made up of 300 businesses, where he gave his most detailed comments on immigration since a bipartisan compromise in the Senate fell apart more than two weeks ago.

Congress returned to Washington today from its holiday recess with immigration policy one of the key unresolved issues on its agenda.

"We cannot lose sight of that we are talking about human beings that need to be treated with respect," Bush told the group, adding, "Massive deportation of human beings is not going to work."

As he has before, Bush tried to temper his call for tough enforcement.

"You can be a nation of law and a compassionate nation at the same time," he said.

"We don't need to deport a single one."

I disagree. Allowing illegals to stay here is costing those of us in California alone TEN BILLION A YEAR! I believe we should deport every illegal in America including the incarcerated (after we build a fence/wall and secure the borders). Why should we spend FIFTY GRAND A YEAR incarcerating other countries' criminals. That is one of the HUGE COSTS involved with illegals. Imagine how many AMERICAN FELONS we could incarcerate if we deported the incarcerated illegals. And if you or anyone else thinks that just because these illegals can't get a job; they are gonna pack up and go home; you are in for a RUDE AWAKENING!

Fine. I withdraw that sentence.

My point, however, is that you need to shut down the illegal employers if you are going to get rid of 12 million illegals.

If not, you will attract another 12 million and then another 12 million and then another 12 million.

If your property is infested with flies because they are feeding on the carcass of a dead horse, you can either run around your yard with a fly swatter and a can of Black Flag bug spray trying to chase down 250,000 flies or you can.......

.......bury the stinkin' horse.

The young toughs will turn to crime rather than leave the U.S. and the Police will have to deal with them.

The vast majority of illegals working here to send money back to their families in Mexico would rather be unemployed in their home towns with their family than be unemployed and homeless in a foreign country.......Then there's always Canada.

Houston with 2 million people evacuated for a hurricane. Deportation would take two weeks, tops.

Too bad our American President didn't say, "But one thing we can't lose sight of is that we are talking about human beings, decent AMERICAN human beings."

Our President is more worried about Mexico's people than our people.

"My point, however, is that you need to shut down the illegal employers if you are going to get rid of 12 million illegals."

oh I could't agree with you more on that point.
these illegals would not have come here to begin with had the borders been secured and employers not been hiring them.

well however long it takes,
the first step is securing the borders
fining employers who hire them
and then picking them up and busing them to the border.

but just throwing our hands up and saying it can't be done like Bush said today is UTTER NONSENSE!

I would partly agree -- that was Bush's way I believe of saying he wouldn't fight that. If he supported it, he would have said it was a measure he supported, rather than simply saying it was interesting.

Bush earlier praised the House bill, although he clearly was against parts of it.

I think Bush's plan would be passably OK, the problem is Bush will go along with plans that are really bad.

"Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish"?

Any other jokes about our Reactive--not Proactive--from the, for the most part clowns, dolts and cretins in Congress?

More to the point it seems our government proves not everything in nature has a purpose since it is:

"Government for big business/lawyers/special interest groups, by big business/lawyers/special interest groups, for big business/lawyers/special interest groups, shall not perish...[Perish? See my tag line].

To the issue of Illegals:

Senator Alan Simpson 20 years ago

"Here Americans are fed up with efforts to make them feel that [they] do not have that fundamental right of any people—to decide who will join them and help form the future country in which they and their posterity will live. But if the elites and the advocates idea of giving voting rights to non-citizen majorities catches on—and don’t be surprised if it does; Americans could be faced with the ultimate absurdity of people outside the social compact making rules for those inside it".

Should we be shocked?

But they are OFF THEIR HANDS AND HAVE THEM OUT big time when it comes to pandering, collecting contributions and seeking reelection!!!!!!

Times haven't changed. A century ago, Mark Twain said there was "....no distinctly American criminal class except Congress..." He often started speeches before civic groups, "Congressmen, Humorists, Burglars--All of Us in the 'Trade'. That's why he felt they all needed a swift kick in the BOOTOCKS, but didn't cuz he had too much respect for his shoes.

What's left? 'God Save America?'

"(Are you French?)"

Around 1/4 French, 1/4 Irish and 1/2 British..which makes me 100% American. Why do you ask?

My family was here before the tea party so if you want to talk about concern about "invaders"...we have lived through many.

What country(s) did your ancestors originate from?

What has criminals have to do with a Guest Worker Program? We need menial laborers and the Guest program is the only way to do that.

I asked because I wasn't sure what your post to me meant.

I am (not sure of exact percentages as I am rather a mixed breed): Irish, Scottish, British, German, Swiss, (perhaps some French as our Irish last name goes back to Norman, but we sort of ignore that) and Cherokee. There may even be some more stuff in there, my Mom died before getting the entire family tree back to Adam! So, some of my ancestors were here even before the Boston tea party, 1 group fought on different sides of the revolutionary war we think, and one was one of the 13 men who fought their way INTO the Alamo and died there (Andrew Kent). Just because you asked (and I rarely get to tell people!)

"You can be a nation of law and a compassionate nation at the same time," he said.

There is no compassion in filling a man's stomach or his pocketbook by relieving him of his responsibilities in life. Illegal aliens have abandoned their own house in order to be comfortable in ours. By so doing neither can be the master of his own house and both will be enemies in the street. This is our house, the U.S. of A., and it is our responsibility to set the rules in it.

The issue of a guest worker program is separate from the issue of illegal aliens. If illegal aliens take jobs from Americans (and they do) they take even more jobs from foreign nationals who apply by the legal route to work here and wait years for the chance. Illegal aliens steal that chance from them.

They are different groups of people, regardless of their country of origin, and the political issues that concern them are different in their effects and needs. Confusing the two may be lethal to our society, economy and sovereignty.

We already have a guest worker program, which may indeed need to be reformed. But illegal aliens are those who have not applied to be guest workers. There are 11 million of them by some estimates, 20 million by others. The only thing needing reform concerning illegal aliens is to enforce the existing laws respecting their presence and their employment here. Our sovereignty and rule-of-law demand it.

Border security is the number one problem in this debate. The flood of illegal aliens is a major factor in relation to our lack of border security but it is only one factor. There is also a matter of national security in a time of war and in an age when terrorists have set their sights on inflicting mass destruction on our society.

After the issues of border security and millions of illegal foreign nationals on our soil the matter of guest workers is very small in comparison. Until the first two problems are thoroughly and firmly addressed the guest worker issue should not even be discussed.

The President and the Senate need to get that message with unambiguous resolve.

The best methods to control the border have been studied and debated for a long time now. There are many good ideas and proven solutions. What is lacking is only the will to do it. The cost of controlling our borders will be insignificant compared to the price we will pay, both in security and economy, if we do not.

It would be nice to help everyone in the world lift themselves up out of poverty. But we cannot take that responsibility upon ourselves especially if we ignore our own welfare to the point that we are no longer prosperous.

Other nations of the world have an obligation to help their citizens every bit as much as we have to help ours. It is one thing to help other nations prosper it is quite another to relieve them of their own responsibilities. Beyond that it is simply not realistic to think that poverty can be ended around the world. We still have some in this great nation.

We must stop pandering to American employers who criminally employ illegal foreign nationals. Dry up the jobs and illegal foreign nationals will go home. Home where they can do what they must to put their houses in order just as we must put ours in order.
