I'm praying for her. Is she a student in Egypt or working there?

This is Criminal Studies 101. They go where they CAN go. Serial killers go after prostitutes because they are on the streets in the dark, wee hours. Islamist killers go where they can pass for normal citizens, where there is a healthy Muslim population.
Ted Bundy's victims weren't prostitutes, nor were BTK's, and neither were many of those of the Green River killer.

Likewise, there are Muslims that you would never know, visually, to be Muslims. They could strike places were there are few Muslims. But Al Qaeda typically doesn't perform such attacks. They hit the places where the two worlds come together.

One of these days hopefully we will wake up and quit pussy footing around with these slugs and just bomb them off the face of the earth. They are simply going to keep killing five here, ten there, six over there, and 3,000 here. But the stinking liberals of this country are going to be the down fall of the Republic. Then the stinking muslin's are going to simply murder all of them while they whine, "but, but, but, we are your friends. We helped run off the conservatives and war mongers here. We are your pals. Why are you killing us?" Then it will be too stinking late.

After much thought and consideration I have decided that this merits a big so what? This was an attack on America or American interest exactly how? Will Egyptian cotton 400TC pillowcases become an expensive luxury? I fail to see the impact on the average American.

Not much I suspect but mostly foreigners were killed which means that we are targets whereever we go.

I'm really puzzled by your statement.
By the same token, why should we care about those killed at Beslan? or any other senseless act in any other country in the world?

I thought she might be a student when you mentioned spring break. Does she teach at the large American school in Maadi by any chance? I was at a 4th of July party in 1999 there. When I and other American students entered the compound a band was loudly playing "Achey-Breaky Heart". One person said "This is the reason Americans are killed in this country". Heh, gallows humor in hindsight.

99.9% chance your sister was nowhere near the blast. So many resorts on the Red Sea and just thirty people from one.

Yes her school is in Maadi. It is Misr American College

She emailed me that they were going to the Sinai for snorkeling, and I remember her telling me that some of the best snorkeling is at the tip. Then later she mentioned the delta, so I'm really not sure...

It is very sad that the Islamic fanatics conducted another suicide bombing. Only for the innocent people hurt or killed. The rest of the world whines that America does not keep them safe, then whines because some nitwit has panties on his noggin and a glo-stick up his @ss. My sympathy for the muslim world and the Arab street is zero. They coddle and create these monsters, unleash them on the world, and blame America. Screw them all.

My dau's in-laws are there now. They couldn't reach them for awhile and it was very scary. They did get ahold of them and they were on the other side of the town.
Said the border between Israel and Sinai has been closed off

"After much thought and consideration I have decided that this merits a big so what?"

Well, for one it is a visible set back for Mubarrak, who in the old language of Patton, may be a son of a bitch but he is OUR son of bitch and no friend of radical islam. Mubarrak leads the most progressive Egypt any of us could dare hope for given the strength of the nutter fringe out there and anything that undermines him is bad for us. Then there is the question of humanity. More people blown to pieces in the name of some twisted religion - it is a reminder to us all that there is no room for complacency in the face of people who think this way. I suspect there will be a number of westerners caught up in it (if not I suspect some Israeli's). So, that's my 'so what'!

Does it impact the 'average american'? Nope. Maybe not. But then neither did Germany's invasion of Poland.

That is what the media wants you to believe. Cairo is very safe. Very low crime. My daugher is living there right now. You can walk the streets at night without any problem. Everyone is very kind.

"I'll never get to Egypt and the rest of the beautiful, historic ME at this rate. It just isn't safe. What a shame. Neither would I go anywhere near there. Too risky on a plane and on the ground. Prayers for the innocent victims and relatives."

Bit of perspective. You are still more likely to get killed in a traffic accident on vacation in Florida, than by Terrorists in Egypt. I guess we just accept the car crash risk!

Agree with you.

My other thought is that I'll never let threats keep me from living my life as I like. Why let them defeat me like that?

I don't remember where I read it- probably on FR somewhere, I'm looking for the link- but it seems that Lebanon (or Jordan or one of those) got really fed up with the suicide bombings and put a bit of a stop to it by going after the suicide bomber's families. I can't find a link to that, but the gist was that terroris suicide bombings pretty much stopped dead (pun intended) after they eliminated some of the bomber's families in retaliation.

If our lilly-livered, thoroughly PC, bleeding heart liberals and RINO's even thought about doing that, they would wet their pink panties and lose control of their sphincters immediately. But for those ME countries who want to stop this type of thing instantly, all that it would take is a quick elimination of the terrorist's families- on both sides, and maybe up and down a few generations- and there would be a certain realization on the terrorist's part that there are exact, known consequences for actions.

I'm all for this type of action there. Take out ten for every one they kill. If the understanding of the consequences didn't stop it, at least the attrition eventually would.
