Perhaps Polimom's missing something (won't be the first time), but from where I'm sitting this morning, the biggest reaction to Osama bin Laden's latest tape is from the West. Polimom wonders whether Osama has spent just a tad too long in his cave - because he's looking somewhat out of step.
Hamas does not share his goals (al-Jazeera):
Commenting on bin Laden's message shortly afterwards, Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesman for Hamas, said the group's ideology was "totally different" from that of bin Laden and al-Qaeda.
"What Osama bin Laden said is his opinion, but Hamas has its own positions which are different to the ones expressed by bin Laden," he said.
Sudan does not share his goals (Sudan Tribune):
One of Darfurs two main rebel groups rejected Al-Qaeda supremo Osama bin Ladens call on Muslims to fight the "crusaders" in the western Sudanese region, warning it could encourage Khartoum to step up its repression.
[snip]
"His words are completely disconnected from the reality in Darfur. Bin Laden is still preaching the theory of an American-Zionist conspiracy when the real problem comes from Khartoum, which is a Muslim government killing other Muslims," Hussein said.

According to this analyst, in fact, even the majority of jihadists don't share his goals (al-Jazeera):
He sounds deeply disappointed that his messages have fallen on deaf ears. The caravan of jihad has left him behind, and it is moving in a dramatically different direction than he had expected. He feels an urgent need to remind his followers and the Muslim community that he is still alive, that he exists.
But the truth is that there are few takers for his civilisational war. Neither Iraqis nor Palestinians are willing to wage a war on bin Laden's behalf; nor do they subscribe to his vision. They have much more limited goals than bin Laden's ambitious and convoluted rhetoric.
It looks to me as if the only people who are getting excited about bin Laden's recent pronouncements are the politicians, who (as always) are looking for a way to blow their own horns (BBC):
The White House said it was proof he was on the run and under pressure.
US opposition politicians said it only showed up the Bush administration's failure to capture Bin Laden.
Make no mistake about the reason Hamas and Sudan spoke out so quickly. They know that this President means business. If the US military needs to go into the PA or into Sudan to get Osama they will.
Jeez, maybe the guy needs a new computer so he can play online poker or something.
Osama has been marginalized, but it would still be nice to capture him and cut off his head on video.
I noticed a bunch of white and black people protesting a KKK rally on FOX over the weekend. Guess white and black people have no use for the KKK. I see groups protesting illegal immigration. I just never see or hear mudslimes protesting the handful of radical mudslimes. My guess is that "Radical Is-Slime" is a redundant term and Is-Slime is incompatible with human life on earth.
Even if they started protesting now, who would believe them? They had their chance and showed their true colors and any window of opportunity to show themselves as a religion of peace has long past them by.
Yep..
When you have been dead for a couple of years you do begin to lose touch.
