A new audiotape from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will be aired today on the Arabic news station al Jazeera, the organisation claims.

Nah, wishful thinking, but the reality is UBL is very much alive and being hunted by brave warriors risking all 24/7 (just as is Zawahiri, M. Omar, J Haqqani, G Hekmatyar and 3 or 4 other HVTs we are currently hunting in the Afghan/Pak border regions).
UBL has released numerous audios/videos that have made their way to the MSM that deal with current events (specific current events).....Additionally it is quite possible that not every video/audio/letters that UBL has wanted to get out have made their way to his wanted destination (Intel recovered by our forces isn't turned over to the MSM).
There was a short period of time in late 2001 - early 2002 that UBL was suspected to have possibly been killed - In March-April 2002 evidence came in showing he was still alive (this is clear for a variety of reasons). Now everyone from the NCOs hunting his as$ to the CIC are aware that he is alive (see post #215).

If you don't comprehend the difference between how the public would respond to a devasting terrorist attack - compared to a devasting natural disaster - not much I can say to change your mind.
I won't even bring up WWII (Pearl Harbor/internment camps). Those were kids play - compared to what would happen post-nuke attack.
Now, I really have to go. Unfortunately, I find some of these responses irrestible.

I thought God gave us the ingenuity to develope the resouces to protect ourselves. The wealth is only a by-product.

As a student of higher mathematics in high school, we often have to do what’s called a “proof.” Using given information, postulates (given theorems already proven), and definitions, we can prove new theorems. Using what Osama Bin Laden said in his recent audio tapes, I am going to prove the following theorem:
IF (as the speaker claims)- “The opposition to the Hamas Government is proof of a crusade (opposition to muslims), THEN muslims are terrorists.
It may seem like a radical claim, but here is the reasoning:
Given: Opposition to Hamas is Opposition to Muslims
Postulate (Proven Theorem): Hamas is a Terrorist Group
Transitive Property: Replace Hamas with Terrorists thus getting- Opposition to Terrorists is Opposition to Muslims
Additive Inverse (Subtracting “Opposition To”): Terrorists are Muslims, or (as the reflexive property says) Muslims are Terrorists
Now, it’s a stretch calling all muslims terrorists, and it’s one that others have said and have gotten threatened or killed for. I’m not saying it, I’m just proving that if Osama is right, and if opposition to Hamas is a crusade against Islam, then muslims are terrorists. At least a mathematical proof comes up with that result…

It isn't that easy. The tapes are not typically being dropped off "at" al Jazeera (per-say). They are being dropped at a location twice removed (which means they are being told to go to a location, and from there, they find another message telling them to go to the next location which is where these tapes have been dropped).
With that said there are all sorts of procedures in place to try and backtrack such tapes (though clearly al Jazeera itself isn't being all that helpful).
Why care about fake tapes?
Look at the public's reaction to a devasting terrorist attack. Now I wish I took pictures of the buses people got on to go TO ground zero.
