Who is Mary McCarthy? [The Great One, Mark Levin, weighs in...]

Who is Mary McCarthy?

Well, as of this morning (Saturday) most of the big media don't care. They're fixated with the weather and gas prices — and anything else that will divert the public's attention from the stunning revelation that a Sandy Berger crony has apparently been leaking top-secret information from her high post at the CIA. The media will continue to downplay this story as they cover-up their own role in exposing our nation's secrets, including the supposed existence of CIA prisons in Europe. She'll be called a "whistleblower" and praised as some kind of patriot (a patriot, in the eyes of the media, is anybody who undermines this administration and the war effort by leaking national security secrets to them). They will downplay that McCarthy was a Clintonoid who somehow managed to land a top post at the CIA, ultimately winding up in the CIA's Inspector General's Office, from where she could monitor CIA internal investigations of, well, leaks, among other things.

The news spin, to the extent attention is being paid to this by the big media outlets, is that McCarthy's firing is unprecedented! Or it's Bush's fault! In one of the most absurd comments by any newsman anywhere, Newsbusters.org notes that Bob Schieffer of CBS Evening News asserted that “it is no secret that the current administration does not like its people hanging out with news reporters without permission” and he described the firing as “a first — a dubious first, to be sure.” Here. Is this guy for real?

If she leaked she must be charged. I wonder what Schieffer would say then? I suppose he would urge that she receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After all, the Washington Post's Dana Priest, who apparently served as McCarthy's stenographer, was just awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

I must say, however, that the media's sickening hypocrisy knows no bounds. They came to the defense of Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame, who worked behind-the-scenes to get her husband that “fact-finding” trip to Niger. They demanded an investigation into who “leaked” Plame’s identity to Bob Novak — which ensnared their own reporters. They hoped they would critically wound the president, and they failed. Clearly Plame was not undercover and the revelation of her identity was not a crime. Lewis Libby now stands accused of lying about a crime that never occurred and the media think that’s a good thing.

Now comes Mary McCarthy, who apparently leaked real classified national-security secrets and the media largely dismiss it or defend it. They have no curiosity about McCarthy, the extent of her leaks, to whom she leaked (beyond Priest, did she leak to other reporters, members of Congress, other governments?), how she secured top security posts, and her ties to the Clinton administration. Surely there is every reason the government should pursue this investigation at least as vigorously as the Plame matter has been pursued. Dana Priest, among others, should have her day before a grand jury.

And watch the congressional Democrats follow the media’s lead. Long ago they put party and power above victory in this war. McCarthy’s ties to Clinton threaten to take attention from their unrelenting attack on the Bush administration and their claims of incompetence in the management of the war, which they see as their ticket to majority status in 2006.

Putting that aside, the discovery of McCarthy does make you wonder how many more of her ilk have squirreled themselves into the bureaucracy, from where they seek to undermine the country.

AMEN. And in other government agencies too, such as State Dept and the UN.

Exactly, and you have to ask yourself the question as to why the Bush administration didn't sweep out, or at least make harmless, all Clinton appointees. It seems so elemental.

Dear Dana Priest, although an attractive, and wholesome looking middle-aged girl should give back her pitiable award.

Yes, guess this whole mess is again Bush's fault. Afterall, Bush is our elected superbody to do all "government" for us as we just sit and watch (and criticize).

Wonder how long before there are fifty "Bush fault" posters here?

What is wrong with us? The democrats are not even the majority and they are ruling this country.

The old, lying liberal/marxist media is ruling this country (thanks to the political ignorance of most of the public).

****

The socialist/marxist/liberal media is the most destructive, relentless, and ruthless enemy of this Republic.

There are also a few other institutions that are tied for second place as intentionally destructive to this Republic.

I remember her from the 9/11 Commission Report...

Page 117

Mary McCarthy, the NSC senior director responsible for intelligence programs, initially cautioned Berger that the “bottom line” was that “we will need much better intelligence on this facility before we seriously consider any options.” She added that the link between Bin Ladin and al Shifa was “rather uncertain at this point.” Berger has told us that he thought about what might happen if the decision went against hitting al Shifa, and nerve gas was used in a New York subway two weeks later.44

Page 128

The original sealed indictment had added that al Qaeda had “reached an understanding with the government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq.”109This passage led Clarke, who for years had read intelligence reports on Iraqi-Sudanese cooperation on chemical weapons, to speculate to Berger that a large Iraqi presence at chemical facilities in Khartoum was “probably a direct result of the Iraq–Al Qida agreement.” Clarke added that VX precursor traces found near al Shifa were the “exact formula used by Iraq.”110This language about al Qaeda’s “understanding” with Iraq had been dropped, however, when a superseding indictment was filed in November 1998.111

Bob Schieffer of CBS Evening News . . . described the firing as “a first — a dubious first, to be sure.”

Aldrich Ames was never fired? Go figure.

It all looks like theatre to me. Some tickets are more expensive than others.

Credibility? They do not care about credibility. They will "make" credibility as what they report reaches those ignorant non-political people hearing only the "soundbyte" news.

What makes you think their goal is to report honestly? It is not. Their goal is to manipulate power in the manner THEY deem is acceptable. A lot more important than merely reporting good and bad and allowing the public to make up their own minds.

Remember - they consider themselves "elitists" fit to twist, manipulate and falsify data to bring about their goals for this country. They don't need elections, they don't care - they have power.

And, we are just allowing them to attack this administration, this national security and tell us what to think.

Aren't you a little mad at the gall of the media? Just how long before the GOP gets mad enough to band together to fight the takeover of this country by those willing to leak, bribe, lie about an elected leader?

WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THIS IS REPORTED FAR AND WIDE.

The blogs are all over it. See Ace of Spades HQ and follow the links. The bloggers are reporting that the WaPo is carrying a story in Sunday's edition indicating that the investigation by the FBI is widespread, and that Rockefeller and Durbin and their staffs will be asked to take polygraphs, and that reporters who published the leaks may be subject to prosecution.

The media can't ignore this -- but they will fall all over themselves, as Levin says, to justify the breaches of national security.

As far as the MSM goes, it's a lost cause -- better to scan FR and the blogs to find out what's happening in the world, instead of banging your head against a wall at the misinformation spoon fed to the ignorant by the MSM.

They don't have any credibility left here and at other conservative forums. But, there would not be the poll numbers that are out there against Bush, the economy, etc. if they didn't have credibility with a heck of a lot of "citizens".

They still rule (unfortunately).

I never said it was Bush's fault, smartguy. But before you make yourself at home somewhere you make sure that there aren't bees nests, spiders, bats or vermin in residence. Like I said, elemental.

No doubt there are more at the CIA ... another area of leaks, the Pentagon, needs a house cleaning as well. The sooner that much better ...

I do use FR for my news source, I do not listen to the mainstream media as I get too mad. But, I am informed.

I am just frustrated. There are so many of us that are aware and if we would just find our voice, we could create a network clear across this country to make sure the truth is out there. Of course, we have that on FR - but the ignorant do not come to FR.

Emails will work. However, I fear that constant "news" emails will bother my contactees.

I just wish some one would come up with a super way to counter the media effectively. We have to counter them unless we are willing for the media to dwelve into our national secrets and sell them, use them or twist them at their whim for profit and power.

I am furious and want to see drastic action by the CIA, Homeland Security and any with oversight. I also want the leaking senators stripped of their position on committees. They are not deserving of the position if they leak information.
