Bush's call for a guest-worker program has riled many who say that the international borders must be secured before normalizing the status of any of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

Actually illegals should never be "normalized", or whatever new code word they've come up with. After securing the borders a policy of attrition to get the population under control is most people want to see. Only then can they talk about a guest worker program.

"The president's approach is better than any enforcement-first or enforcement-only plan," said John Gay of the National Restaurant Association. "I hope his visit will stir conversation for a comprehensive approach ........people support a comprehensive approach."

I support a comprehensive approach as well: build a border barrier, rescind the anchor baby laws, cut off the taxpayer freebies, and heavily fine illegal-hiring employers.

If the borders are not being secured by November, I stay home. I can no longer support the Republicans in good conscience. At least I know where the Democrats are coming from. Voting for Republicans in hopes that they will return to Constitutional Government has become a pathetic charade.

Bush's business position:

"Some immigration is good, and so unlimited, illegal immigration must be really good."

My only comment is that Mr. Bush went to Harvard Business school.

If anyone bothers to read the opinion of the Heritage Foundation, they are now saying that unlimited illegal immigration is a significant economic burden on the taxpayer.

In other words, businesses shift most of their private costs of hiring illegals to the public as an unreimbursed social cost: This is called a negative externality.

The Heritage Foundation is now also saying that educating the offspring of illegals is an extremely expensive and unproductive use of this country's scarce resources.

This is a complete about-face from a year ago when the Heritage Foundation was leading the charge for abolishing the public school system and instituting vouchers.

Illegal immigration has changed the face of California for the worse. Mr. Bush will get a full dose of that in OC.

I can hardly wait to see the look on his face.

It's good that the silly assertion being made by the globalists that "...it is impossible to round up 11 million illegals" is being over-run by the rebuttal that the genuine threat of jail for employers will dry up the labor market for illegals and force them to leave on their own. A genuine threat will require more than the token action taken this week against IFCO.

Bill O'Reilly says we can't deport 12 million illegals, sure we can, you do it a little at a time.

Deport them as you find them, and bring in legal immigrants to replace them if they're needed to do the jobs most Americans won't do.

After all, most of these workers aren't rocket scientists.

"Hyatt Regency Irvine...

Why doesn't he come to the Hyatt in Westlake? I engineer a date to go there once in a while. And they hold these really big and loud drinking parties every Friday night around the pool. I saw people swim with their clothes on, from about 30 feet away. It's fun watching this stuff go on. It's also fun having a nice woman tell me that I am her own refugee from this right here and right now:):):)

If illegals are entitled to amnesty for breaking federal laws and entitled to free social services then under the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution every American citizen is entitled to amnesty for not filing tax returns, etc. We should be entitled to all social programs too. I'd love to see protestors show up with posters that say: "Equal Protection Under The Law For American Citizens" "Amnesty for Tax Evaders". That ought to stir the pot a bit. :)

Did you happen to see the current OC Metro business magazine (http://www.churmpublishing.com/)?

Classic misdirection provided via one of the cover stories "Ethnic Entrepreneurs: Immigrants and their offspring help power OC’s world-class economy."

Then proceed to the Publisher's Note that begins:

"Time is Ticking
Immigration compromise is best option yet.

BY STEVE CHURM

It’s time to stop the nonsense and adopt some sort of federal legislation that addresses in a meaningful way the immigration mess that threatens our economy locally and nationally and is tearing at our social fabric as a country. Hanging in the balance are an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, the vast majority of them working in low-paying jobs critical to key industries like tourism and hospitality, agriculture, construction and domestic services, including housecleaning and landscaping. Nowhere are illegal immigrants more deeply woven into the landscape than here in Southern California. They are part of an underground economy that is helping drive the spectacular growth in the region’s six major counties, including here in Orange County."

See also OC Metro's poll, "Should illegal immigrants be treated as felons?" It was running 33.3 Yes and 66.7 No.
