Rough Neighborhood(Bush enters hotbed of illegal immigration controversy Monday!)

President Bush will land in a hotbed of the illegal-immigration debate Monday when he flies into Orange County, and he's likely to find a tough sell for his approach.

Bush's call for a guest-worker program has riled many who say that the international borders must be secured before normalizing the status of any of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

When Bush stands up at the Hyatt Regency Irvine to pitch his views on immigration to the Orange County Business Council, some will applaud his decision to talk here - if not what he's pushing.

"I'd rather he come here and listen to us than somewhere everybody supports him," said Rep. Gary Miller, R-Diamond Bar, who opposes Bush's approach but will be on hand. "It offers us an opportunity to talk to him."

You're ignoring the fact that 80% of Americans want the borders enforced and are frustrated that nothing has been done...and they'll take their frustration out on any companies that get brought to trial over hiring illegals...in my view.

You're ignoring the fact that much of that 80% of Americans that want the borders enforced also hire illegal alien day laborers and gardeners.

Everyone wants to go to heaven; nobody's willing to die to get there.

So there he is at that time, with kids aged 4, 6, 7 perhaps, and you think he should step up and risk their future by toeing the line that he thinks, as best he can tell, he can avoid forever. You see yourself sitting in your living room watching the kids playing on the floor and you think you're going to go turn yourself in the next day?

Now no question he owes back taxes, but I am pretty sure most freepers in that paragraph above are not going to speak up.

LOL!

Yep, I want them shipped out, but only after Jose finishes the yard, Phak-Phimonphan gets the washing, ironing and mopping done and Maria gets the crappy diaper off that screaming kid.

What world are these people living in? Too funny.

Well, just stay home and not vote if that is how you feel.
I am sure I can round up a couple more Republican votes to make you for your's. If that is how you have been voting. Which I doubt.

Okay. I will go along with amnesty, if every American gets to pick a law they don't want to follow and then is allowed to break that law for the next ten years with no punishment. I don't want to pay my taxes for the next ten years. Yay! I get to use my money to benefit MY children, instead of footing the bill for criminal alien thieves.

What's good for the goose, and all that.

...if GWB had built a fence and started deporting the illegals FIVE YEARS AGO; the job would have been accomplished by now...

In an article about the proposed "guest worker" plan, I read that 40% of illegal immigrants have been here 5 years or more. That would mean that 60% of illegals have arrived here within the past 5 years. Shameful!

"If anyone bothers to read the opinion of the Heritage Foundation, they are now saying that unlimited illegal immigration is a significant economic burden on the taxpayer"

I would appreciate it if you could post a link to the article regarding the costs of illegal immigration on the Heritage Foundation site. Thanks

If illegals are entitled to amnesty for breaking federal laws and entitled to free social services then under the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution every American citizen is entitled to amnesty for not filing tax returns, etc. We should be entitled to all social programs too. I'd love to see protestors show up with posters that say: "Equal Protection Under The Law For American Citizens" "Amnesty for Tax Evaders". That ought to stir the pot a bit. :)

But there is to be punishment. A fine has to be paid and all back taxes. I think a lot of freepers are ignoring that. Do you think you could come up with the money to pay 10 yrs of your past taxes (yes, you already paid, but if you had not, do you think you'd be able to raise that money if you were in a low income job?). The bottom line on that is most of these people won't have the cash and they will be booted.

You cannot say you don't believe it, because if you say that then you cannot say you approve of a law to build a fence, because you don't believe that either.

If those 40% can come up with the cash for a fine and 5++ years of back taxes, that will be interesting -- because if they cannot they will join the other 60% to be booted.

Now, don't cross your arms across your chest and say you don't believe that law will be enforced -- because if you take that position then you are not allowed to support a move for funding for a fence either, because you won't believe that funding imperative will be enforced either. This leaves you unable to support anything because you can't believe anything.

And how long will they have to raise the miniscule fine and apply for a EITC payment?

Citizenship is worthless, then. Illegally break into the country and pay a $2,000 fine. That is disgusting. And how are they going to gather the information to show what amount of tax they owe? (What? Tax fraud? ANOTHER law broken!!) They just won't bother. It would take FAR too much time and effort. They will just allow everyone to stay and not "bother" telling the citizens.

"...it is impossible to round up 11 million illegals

The "mass round-up" scenario is a straw man used by pro-illegal forces to demagogue the issue. It projects an image of a draconian police state dragging people off the streets and out of their houses while wailing women and crying children look on helplessly. It is a fraud and a lie, just as it is a fraud and a lie for these same enemies of American sovereignty to assert "the immigrant issue" rather than the "illegal" issue.

I hope GWB brought his checkbook, because he owes CA NINE BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR that illegals are allowed to stay here!

Actually that would be your state govt. that gives out the benefits.
