Rough Neighborhood(Bush enters hotbed of illegal immigration controversy Monday!)

President Bush will land in a hotbed of the illegal-immigration debate Monday when he flies into Orange County, and he's likely to find a tough sell for his approach.

Bush's call for a guest-worker program has riled many who say that the international borders must be secured before normalizing the status of any of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

When Bush stands up at the Hyatt Regency Irvine to pitch his views on immigration to the Orange County Business Council, some will applaud his decision to talk here - if not what he's pushing.

"I'd rather he come here and listen to us than somewhere everybody supports him," said Rep. Gary Miller, R-Diamond Bar, who opposes Bush's approach but will be on hand. "It offers us an opportunity to talk to him."

Ike only rounded up about 1 million, not 11 million.

How do you propose to it?

"How do you propose to it?"
just like ICE did it this week...
and if GWB had built a fence and started deporting the illegals FIVE YEARS AGO; the job would have been accomplished by now...

No it isn't. There is already a database where employers can voluntarily check documents against names/ssns/etc.
Funny how the "voluntary" part means it never gets used by employers.

Information doesn't match, the person is given a chance to prove who they say they are. If they can't, it is illegal to hire them. Provide the employer with a confirmation number only IF the information matches.
Employers who don't want to play ball do the perp walk.

It's funny how many people are so intent on saying it can't be done. The US wouldn't be a country with that attitude. Maybe they should all move to France?

Or could it be there is an, ahem "personal interest" in keeping the pipeline open by the defeatists?

Employers who don't want to play ball give $100 to computer hacker, wait fifteen minutes, and the prospective employee magically has a valid social security number.

Not to mention the possibility of a vengeful employer firing an employee, then paying that same hacker to make sure the fired employee's social security number never matches up with his name ever again--the guy can no longer legally work in his own country.

Do you really want to stake your freedom, your phyiscal safety, and your financial security on how well a massive computer database that is accessible to everyone in this country (hell, probably in the world) can be kept secure?

Bill O'Reilly says we can't deport 12 million illegals, sure we can, you do it a little at a time.

Deport them as you find them, and bring in legal immigrants to replace them if they're needed to do the jobs most Americans won't do.

After all, most of these workers aren't rocket scientists.

There are a lot of politicians and political who have discovered that there is money to be made from pointing out the problem and making a lot of noise about solving it. Those are the last people I would entrust solving the problem to, because it would be asking them to act against their financial interests. (It's akin to expecting liberals to support doing anything about race relations, poverty, or any of their other pet issues--solving the problem ends the gravy train.)

Do you think juries would have a different attitude toward employers of illegals today? I do.

Well, considering I'm already part of a massive DMV database, a massive credit database, a massive health care database, a massive Social Security database, a massive IRS database.....

Yes, I am.

"Hyatt Regency Irvine...

Why doesn't he come to the Hyatt in Westlake? I engineer a date to go there once in a while. And they hold these really big and loud drinking parties every Friday night around the pool. I saw people swim with their clothes on, from about 30 feet away. It's fun watching this stuff go on. It's also fun having a nice woman tell me that I am her own refugee from this right here and right now:):):)

No. The economy's even better now than it was in 1986.

You'd need a huge economic downturn for it to flip.

You're ignoring the fact that 80% of Americans want the borders enforced and are frustrated that nothing has been done...and they'll take their frustration out on any companies that get brought to trial over hiring illegals...in my view.

I have a definite problem with taking a guy who has been in the country for 20 yrs and working and not committing crimes, has 4 US citizen kids,

This man has had ample opportunity to become legal including the amnesty of Reagan offered in 1986. He chose to not become an American citizen, get in line behind the rest. There are plenty who would love to be citizens and were not given the opportunity he has.
