The people were fighting here are truly evil people. Many of them have lost every bit of humanity that a normal person possesses. They habitually kidnap and execute Iraqis for reasons varying from religious differences, to robbery, to vicious retribution for helping give us information, etc. This makes it very difficult to find these bad guys because they have such a grip on the people. (Although one platoon did recently rescue a hostage who was surely about to be killed - talk about a good feeling
KNOWING you saved someones life!) As for the bad guys, imagine the MOB operating without the threat of any law enforcement and with every weapon and explosive they want at their disposal and the financial and moral assistance of fundamentalists and probably even other governments from around the globe. Its a tough fight, but were winning.

BZ to this Marine officer and his men.
Its kind of funny how when you go to war, its all the non-infantry people who come home looking like studs (or completely fat) and all the infantry guys and Recon guys who come home like skinny little weaklings.
LOL! I can vouch for that. My son came home about 20lb lighter than he left. And he was thin to begin with. His mother and I have been doing our best to fatten him up before he heads back to Camp Pendleton next week. ;-)

Such a powerful letter. It is very heart warming to realize our prayers for all our guys and gals are often answered. We never see the bullet hit a wall that just barely misses someone. But they do. May the good Lord in HIS tender mercy gather all the coaliton forces and now the good Iraqi army and police under his wing, and provide for their safety.
Hopefully larger numbers of Iraqi will start in a big way cooperating with their police and army in putting down this insurgency.
Like is mentioned. Much of this is taking on the form of organized crime. The line in my opinion between say a drug gang and a militia doing bad things to citizens for revenge, etc., is a fine line. And quite franky since day one, I have seen little difference.

Army guys, I duuno - death before dismount I guess. They drive around a lot. Maybe it works, but compare causality rates in Al Anbar between the Army and Marines. How about you just stick with that thought. How about you compare the numbers on the ground of Marines versus Soldiers. Marines are well-trained and tough, but they have the same infantry training we do in the Army.

Two of my sons used to be marines, have a special place in my heart for them all.
God Bless.

I missed that earlier comment. I think it's unfair. There are awesome folks wearing all types of uniforms. Service rivalry is good and fun during football season, but during war all our service colors are red, white and blue. God bless all our military personnel!
