'Patriots' outnumber protesters at Marine's funeral
Chicago Tribune ^ | 4/19/2006 | Jason George

Five members of a small Kansas church demonstrated today outside the funeral of a Marine from south suburban Lansing, but left when hundreds of counter-protesters turned out to shield family members from their display.

Members of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka have been traveling around the country to demonstrate at military funerals, contending that God is punishing America with war casualties for its tolerance of homosexuals and generally welcoming the combat deaths.

Today, they came to the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Philip J. Martini, 24, who died in combat of a gunshot wound April 8 in Iraq's Al Anbar province.

This time, however, the demonstrators were met by nearly 200 "Patriot Guard Riders," a biker group, which shielded family members and other mourners outside Holy Ghost Church at 170th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue in South Holland.

When a gray hearse carrying Martini's body arrived at the church, all that could be seen on the street was a sea of black biker leather and American flags waving in the wind.(snip)

I'd love to see these Kansas jerkoffs get the crap beaten out of them a few times.

Yes, they have the right to "demonstrate", but no one has to politely tolerate their vile BS. In my mind, it falls under "fighting words".

I wouldn't mind if they tripped and fell, myself.

The Patriot Guard way, is much better though.
Good triumphs over evil and outnumbers them too.
In addition, it must be such a comfort to the families of our fallen heroes.

The Patriot Guard joined with Rolling Thunder and just about every motorcyclist in Oklahoma last weekend (15 April, 2006) to honor Tech Sgt Patrick Shannon, a man who was lost in Laos during the Vietnam War and not recovered until last December. There is a great thread on www.patriotguard.org about this man and the service.

Tech Sgt Patrick Shannon

If you have time, take a look at the links on the last post on page 23:

Tech Sgt Patrick Shannon - Page 23

It was a very moving experience.

I am attending another PGR mission this Saturday for Lance Cpl. Stephen J. Perez, 22. of San Antonio, TX. He was killed in combat action 13 April 2006 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was a member of the 1sr Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA.

Any fellow Freepers who wish to join the PGR, go to http://www.patriotguard.org. Fellow Texans, check out Confirmed Missions on the right side of the main page. Look down for the Lance Cpl. Stephen J. Perez, 22. of San Antonio, TX link and follow it for directions and itinerary.

You don't have to ride a motorcycle to join us for a mission. Some folks come in cars and trucks. All are welcome.

Thank you so much for pointing out those links.
Tears streaming down my cheeks at the moment.

You were there.
God bless you.

I haven't been on a bike since 1980 or so.
Might just have to think about riding again.

I'm surprised some Vets don't punch their lights out. I'd walk up to them and say, you know, I'm a Veteran and fought to protect the right of people to protest.

Because we're burying another Veteran who died for your rights I'm offended you are protesting his service. Therefore, because I'm offended I'm going to kick your @ss and remove your teeth in the process whether your a man or woman. And then commence to do it.
