Of course, the irony in this particular case is that this was a guy convicted of molesting his nephew, so I've got zero sympathy for him.

But damn, in some states, an 18 year old having sex with a 17 year old girlfried is considered statutory rape. Does that guy deserved to get plugged?

About time they feared someone.

If we locked up the true perverts for life, instead of giving them jail sentences as long as the age of their victims, they wouldn't be at risk.
They'd be safe from vendettas - and kids would be safe - and we'd all be safer if they never got out.

You're right.

The 24-year-old man who was killed had sex with a teenage girlfriend when he was younger. At the time of the sex crime, he was 19 years old, and his girlfriend was 3 days shy of 16 years old.

Hardly what you consider a pedophile.

Agreed and that was actually one of the examples I was thinking of. I may believe that an 18 year old and a 17 year old shouldn't be having sex, but that doesn't mean they deserve death. And that doesn't meant that the 18 year old should have to go the rest of his life branded alongside real child molesters.

Some states have laws that define "sex offender" very loosely. Not a pedophile, not a rapist. Maybe just a guy accused of having grabbed a girl's butt in a bar, and he pleads guilty to a misdemeanor to avoid the cost. Or a guy accused by this spouse of touching her during a domestic situation, pled down to avoid costs and legal risks.

Under some laws, a guy seen taking a leak in public because he couldn't find a rest room would fall under the "sex offender" umbrella....

A possible unintended consequence of this could be that registered sex offenders may start blowing off their obligation to report their whereabouts. In droves. It is already difficult to effectively enforce the registration. If a large portion of them decide that, for their own safety, they would rather violate their parole and fade out of sight, then the chances of maintaining any oversight over their proximity to past victims, potential at-risk locations such as schools and youth centers, and even employment at places that possibly expose them to future victims is out the window.

Failure to afford a reasonable expectation of personal safety to registered sex offenders is just asking for seriously dangerous and unwanted side effects.

Good. I'm glad they're afraid.

So? What do they want? Praise?????

Most likely they want to not be murdered.

This system has got to cost quite a bit. And as noted, it lumps very high risk with very low risk all together. No sense of proportion to the system.

I wonder if it wouldn't be better to spend the money on a)longer incarceration and b) bird-dog supervision of the really dangerous ones.

Taking a leak in 'public' gets you on the list too. Even if you're not in plain view; like behind some shrubbery, behind a building, whatever. It's a hog's trick (my wife hates that saying), but not what I'd consider a sexual offender crime.

What I don't get is why have these people not received Cranial Lead Implant therapy for their affliction and offenses.

I'm not necessarily condoning this, but I wouldn't shed a single tear if I read about a lot more of this type of vigilanteism.

Molestation murders the soul and spirit, mind too. You are never the same after it happens, and the younger it happens the worse off you are.

It's no coincidence that a huge percentage of people identifying themselves as homosexuals were molested or raped as children.
