Although I always felt McClellan was out of his league, my 23 year old son felt exactly the same that you do. The nastiness of the press corps was perfectly foiled by McClellan's respectful and droll demeanor.
To a tired old hack like me, I wanted more fire. To a political novice, McClellan appeared quite differently.
If it's not Tony Snow then I think General 'John Wayne' Honore would be excellent since the WH Press Corps has been 'stuck on stupid' for years!

I believe the GOP needs to hit back hard against the media all the time. The public likes it and it's illuminating.
In fact, the press secretary should start a few press conferences by reading something in the papers and then showing how it's false. Start press conferences on the offensive when the public's attention is sharp.
Prosecute CBS for conspiring with the Dem party in the Texas Air National Guard case. Prosecute the Washington Post and the Maryland Dems for conspiring against Erlich's administration.
The media has a lot of First Amendment protections but not for conspiracy to break laws.

My biggest disappointment from these guys is the lack of effort they put into fighting the war critics and allowing the Dems to rewrite the history of our involvement with Iraq. The troops at risk deserve better.

Yeah, Rove will have a lot more time during this campaign because he won't have to constantly communicate to Bush through that "mystery box" concealed under Bush's coat. (end/sarcasm) The Dummies thought it was a receiver and Bush was getting instructions on "what to say" from Rove during the campaign.
wait up....his domestic spending and his treatment of the illegals makes him a lot more left than I can stand at times.
