Perhaps I take a longer view. I gave Tony my short term view last night on this job deal, but I think that I would like to see him have his health issues settled and then plan to replace Tim Kaine as Governor of Virginia in November of 2009 with the proviso that if a Virginia Senate path opens for 2008 he could run for that seat.
Coming out of the Governors seat in January 2014 would position him for national office at that point.

Thanks for that update. I'd rather see Rove on politics. He's excellent on policy, but right now we need some pure political calculation.

He sure isn't listening to his base on various issues, so I hope whoever gets the job can explain this fact to the President.

Agree that Bush is loyal (sometimes to a fault) and never fires anyone - my guess is that Bolten may have asked Scott to leave. If true, he may have also asked Karl Rove to give up DCOS post and concentrate full-time on stratergy - - something I think would be VERY beneficial to the Pres

Thank you. :-)
I suspect Bush made the bigger sacrifice, many years ago. I can only follow such a wise, strong and good man.

And you sir, are a class act.
I completely agree with you about Scott McClellan, people have beaten up on him since day one. People who are alledgedly on our side. I'm sick of it, but watch, they will even do it on this, the day he finally resigns from his position.
I thank Scott for his service and wish him well.

"Karl Rove to Lose Policy Portfolio By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago WASHINGTON - In another move in an ongoing shakeup of President Bush's staff, longtime confidant and adviser Karl Rove is giving up oversight of policy development to focus more on politics with the approach of the fall midterm elections, a senior administration official said Wednesday."
This actually makes great sense. The RNC is in trouble unless someone with a brain can turn things around for the fall election. Rove should be very good, as you indicate.
