News outlets resist Scooter Libby subpoenas

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A former White House aide fighting perjury charges should not get access to reporters' notes and other newsroom material because they have no relevance to his case, several news outlets told a U.S. judge on Tuesday.

The New York Times, NBC News and Time magazine also argued that press freedom would be damaged if they were forced to hand over the material sought by former vice presidential aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby's defense team.

I have no sympathy for the MSM in this case. In fact, I hope they put up a stink and let the public's distrust of them go up.

Well, I guess this was expected. But it does show they utter hypocricy....the want the White House to tell all, but when it comes to them telling the truth and turning over factual information, they balk. Typical.

I hope Scooter's lawyers root out who the reporter that spent 4th of July at the Wilson residence.

That would be Walter Pincus of the WashPost.

If they have no information pertinent to the testimony, then what proof does Fitzy have that Libby was the one who lied. Apparently, it was the "journalist" who made things up since they have absolutely nothing to back up their testimony.

I hope Scooter's lawyers root out who the reporter that spent 4th of July at the Wilson residence. This was before the Novak article, and proves she wasn't trying to be covert.

Kristof had Breakfast with the Wilsons BEFORE the below article was penned. I really want to hear his testimony.

Kristof column May 5, 2003:
I'm told by a person involved in the Niger caper that more than a year ago the vice president's office asked for an investigation of the uranium deal, so a former U.S. ambassador to Africa was dispatched to Niger. In February 2002, according to someone present at the meetings, that envoy reported to the C.I.A. and State Department that the information was unequivocally wrong and that the documents had been forged.

IMHO: Someone present must be CIA (Plame) and envoy must refer to Wilson.

IOW: Kristof knew about Plame before May 5, 2003.

The Vanity Fair article kind of knocks down the Walter Pincus theory. My guess is that the reporter is probably Pincus' co author of the July 6th article, Richard Leiby:
Pincus and another reporter, Richard Leiby, persuaded Wilson to let the Post publish a profile of him the same day. During the preparation of the article, Leiby mentioned to Pincus that Joe Wilson had baby twins. It was the first time Pincus knew that Wilson was even married.

That's odd. Because I seem to recall Joe or Valerie being quoted as saying they had Walter and his wife over for a barbecue that July 4.

But, then, Joe would lie about anything...

Perhaps it was Leiby, after all.

Here the news media resists subpoenas...yet how would the news media report it if the White House resisted them?!

"News" outlets resist getting to the truth!

The people (in the press) have a right to know (the rest of us should simply believe what the tell us).

Would it not be entertaining for the media to be declared attainted traitors and ALL of the lies and frauds that they have perpetrated on the American people be revealed once and for all?

(Oh well, I can dream can't I ...)
